Faithful chromosome segregation is crucial for cell division in eukaryotes, facilitated by the kinetochore, a multi-subunit protein complex that connects chromosomes to spindle microtubules. Recent research has significantly advanced our understanding of kinetochore function plants, including surprising findings about assembly checkpoint, composition inner and unique arrangement holocentric Cuscuta species. Additionally, some proteins plants have been implicated roles beyond segregation, such as cytokinesis regulation involvement developmental processes. SUMMARY Apomixis – clonal seed production in plants is a rare yet phylogenetically widespread trait that has recurrently evolved to fix hybrid genotypes over generations. absent from major crop species and been seen as holy grail of plant breeding due its potential propagate vigor perpetuity. Here we exhaustively review recent progress, bottlenecks, the individual components gametophytic apomixis (avoidance meiosis, skipping fertilization by parthenogenesis, autonomous endosperm development), sporophytic apomixis. The Mitosis instead Meiosis system now successfully set up three ( Arabidopsis , rice, tomato), significant hurdles remain for universal bioengineering gametes.
