Dietary Intake among Lebanese Adults: Findings from the Updated LEBANese natiONal Food Consumption Survey (LEBANON-FCS)

Background:
The
rates
of
obesity,
undernutrition,
and
other
non-communicable
diseases
are

rise
among
Lebanese
adults.

consumption

Abstract
Background:
Ultra
processed
foods
(UPFs)
are
widely
considered
to
have
negative
health
impacts,
particularly
associated
with
non-communicable
diseases
(NCDs)

obesity,

2
diabetes,

cardiovascular
disease.
However,
their
consumption
continues
rise
globally,
driven
by
convenience,
affordability,
extensive
marketing.
This
study
aims
understand
young
consumers'
knowledge
perceptions
of
ultra
(UPFs),
identify
factors
influencing
attitudes
dietary
behaviours,
assess
the
impact
awareness
on
UPF
consumption.
Methods:
Qualitative
data
was
gathered
through
semi-structured
focus
group
interviews
involving
a
sample
11
university
students,
aged
18–25
years,
mixed
gender,
studying
non-nutrition-related
degrees.
Data
analysed
according

analysis

iterative
approach.
Results:

that

participants

UPFs
