Malignant Transformation of Proliferative Verrucous Leukoplakia: A Description of the Clinical Oral Characteristics of These Squamous Cell Carcinomas

Background/Objectives:
Proliferative
verrucous
leukoplakia
(PVL)
is
an
oral
disorder
with
the
greatest
degree
of
malignant
transformation.
However,
it
relatively
rare.
This
study
compared
clinical
characteristics
patients
squamous
cell
carcinoma
(OSCC)
who
had
and
not
been
previously
diagnosed
PVL.
Methods:
case
control
classified
as
early
(T1
T2)
or
advanced
(T3
T4)
OSCC
according
to
T
size
Tumor,
Node,
Metastasis
(TNM)
classification,
including
age,
gender,
location,
type
carcinoma.
The
analysis
involved
140
patients.
Group
1:
50
PVL
(OSCC-PVL)
2:
90
without
(OSCC-noPVL).
Results:
OSCC-PVL
were
younger
than
those
OSCC-noPVL,
but
this
did
reach
statistical
significance.
Regarding
patient

frequently
female
(70%),

OSCC-noPVL
was
prevalent
in
men
(65.5%)
(p

0.01).
