Abstract Cold stress is a major environmental factor limiting crop yield, quality, and geographical distribution worldwide. The homeodomain‐leucine zipper (HD‐Zip) transcription (TF) family plays role in regulating plant abiotic responses, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. A HD‐Zip TF, MdHB7L, identified as promoting cold tolerance apple. MdHB7L interacts with MdICE1L, enhancing its transcriptional activation of MdCBFs, directly binds to MdCBF promoters activate their expression. Conversely, MdICE1L inhibits direct binding on promoters, revealing that acts cofactor rather than TF when interacting MdICE1L. Using ChIP‐seq RNA‐seq, found regulate expression several key genes involved ROS scavenging biosynthesis anthocyanins, soluble sugars, proline, thereby apple tolerance. E3 ubiquitin ligase MdHOS1 negatively regulates by mediating degradation preference for over MdHB7L. This MdHOS1–MdHB7L interaction stabilizes allowing it sustain plant's response after degradation. These findings provide new insights into dynamic mediated MdHB7L–MdICE1–MdHOS1 module.
