Due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and pro-healing properties, the application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has emerged as a new promising therapeutic strategy in various fields medicine, including general medicine dentistry. In this light, aim present study was investigate effects homemade jet on cellular behaviour two important cell types involved gingivitis, namely gingival fibroblasts (HGF-1 line) macrophages (RAW 264.7 line), by direct CAP different experimental conditions. The HGF-1 cells investigated terms viability/proliferation (LIVE/DEAD CCK-8 assays), morphological features (immunofluorescent staining actin cytoskeleton) fibronectin expression (immunocytochemical network), while macrophages’ response evaluated through assessment survival/proliferation rate inflammatory activity (pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion profile (ELISA assay) foreign body giant (FBGCs) formation cytoskeleton multinuclearity index determination)). vitro biological revealed an upward trend dependent treatment time number applications, proliferation (p < 0.0001) 0.0001). On other hand, exposed five consecutive applications for longer times (over 120 s) exhibited strong pro-inflammatory activity, evinced their altered morphology, FBGCs formation. Overall, our results demonstrate that exposure, when used with appropriate operating parameters, beneficial effect RAW cells, thus paving way further vivo investigations will allow translation from research clinic alternative therapy gingivitis.

Abstract To provide a comprehensive and updated mapping of observational studies assessing the relationship between periodontitis systemic diseases through bibliometric visual analysis. A search was conducted using Web Science database, covering period 1989 to 2024. The Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) from US National Library Medicine used categorize conditions, focusing on terms unrelated stomatognathic diseases. analysis included keyword co‐occurrence mapping, co‐authorship, bibliographic coupling, co‐citation Quality indicators such as silhouette score, modularity, centrality were considered assess network's quality. research strategy identified 6106 records, which 1519 met inclusion criteria. revealed that 46.73% literature topic published in last 5 years annual publication trend peaked 2023. Nutritional & Metabolic Diseases ( n = 398), Cardiovascular 335), Female Urogenital Pregnancy Complications 244), Musculoskeletal 182) most representative categories associated with periodontitis. co‐cited journals Journal Periodontology 1412), Clinical 1343), Dental Research 940), 2000 849). USA, China, Brazil, Sweden countries contributed number publications. present study growing evaluating association diseases, highlighting negative impact plethora conditions rising translational interest this relationship. With an aging population, is expected affect people coming decades, presenting significant challenges public health. Improved knowledge is, therefore, essential enable more care, preventive strategies, optimal oral health for patients

To investigate the effect of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on incidence peri-implantitis (PI) and peri-implant mucositis (PIM). Radiographic clinical chart reviews were conducted to measure probing depth (PD), bleeding probing, marginal bone loss (MBL) around implants diagnose diseases based 2017 workshop classification. Values recorded at baseline (T0) last available radiograph (T1). Maintenance compliance was evaluated. Cases followed longitudinally detect PI PIM. Various potential confounders controlled, including total radiographic follow-up time, chart-based number maintenance visits, implant dimensions, history periodontitis, graft, restoration angle, emergence, smoking, diabetes mellitus. Chi-square Mann-Whitney tests evaluated categorical continuous differences. Generalized estimating equations with a Tweedie distribution applied. Binary logistic regression ascertained odds ratio for binary outcomes. A 101 patients (50 RA 51 non-RA) 124 investigated. The mean period 5.38 ± 2.22 years. Implant survival rate high 96%. group demonstrated significantly higher (p = 0.024), while non-RA showed PIM < 0.001). No significant differences observed between both groups in MBL. Compared group, similar MBL rates lower PIM; however, there PI. In this study, we investigated condition dental 50 compared healthy controls over 5 Assessments from initial treatment visit included reviewing patient records radiographs signs bleeding, depth, loss. These measures helped (PIM) periodontal disease findings revealed (96%) no difference However, than that

Background/Objectives: Peri-implantitis is a prevalent inflammatory condition affecting dental implants, leading to increased treatment costs, patient dissatisfaction, and potential implant failure. Novel biomarker-based approaches may contribute early detection, thereby decreasing the burden of disease. The aim this review was assess in vivo studies using metabolomics identify metabolic profiles biomarkers peri-implantitis. Methods: protocol for study registered with PROSPERO (CRD42025634865). Five databases grey literature sources (PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, ProQuest, Google Scholar) were searched keywords related Studies selected by independent, inter-calibrated researchers. Data extracted predefined, custom forms. risk bias assessed ROBINS-I tool. Results: An electronic search retrieved 543 articles, which five selected. Periodontal disease is a prevalent chronic inflammatory condition that impacts over billion people worldwide, leading to substantial tooth loss, reduced quality of life, and heightened systemic health risks. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence regarding the global burden periodontal disease, its established associations with conditions including cardiovascular diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, respiratory infections, neurodegenerative disorders, significant socioeconomic implications. The focused on following research question: What how do implications necessitate integrated public strategies? A structured search PubMed, Scopus, WHO databases from 2000 2024 was conducted identify relevant literature using key terms, “periodontal disease”, “global burden”, “systemic inflammation”, “public strategies”. Out 312 initially identified articles, 175 satisfied inclusion criteria for final synthesis. findings underscore significance as modifiable risk factor various noncommunicable diseases, influence healthcare disparities progression, critical necessity strategies mitigate consequences. concludes coordinated policy reform, system integration, enhanced efforts are crucial mitigating advancing equity.

Background: Peri-implantitis, the most prevalent cause of implant failure, is a multifaceted issue that influenced by various factors promote biofilm formation around implant. Although innovative methods for microbiological decontamination dental implants exist, universally accepted standard protocol has not yet been established. However, potential device generates an electric current (Ximplant®) in reducing survival microorganisms within promising development. Methods: In this vitro study, five implants, contaminated using microbial culture from sample saliva patient suffering peri-implantitis, were decontaminated Ximplant® peri-implantitis protocol. The experimental conditions included simulated peri-implant site and subsequent fluorescent assessment Live/Dead population. Results: qualitative quantitative image analyses showed predominant dead light signal on treated sample, demonstrating efficacy applying electrostatic field to surface viability implants. Conclusions: These findings could inspire new era treatment.

The study aims were (1) to explore whether "periodontal treatment" consisting of surgical therapy (flap, resective, or regenerative) scaling and root planing treatment with long-term periodontal maintenance treatment, is cost-effective in terms preventing periodontitis-attributable tooth extraction replacement by implant-supported crowns ("extraction/replacement"); (2) assess the effect cigarette smoking on this cost-effectiveness. Data for observational retrospective collected from dental charts patients who had received at least annual follow-up visits >10 years analyzed linear regression generalized estimating equations models. Among 399 adults (199 males, 200 females), those mean cost experienced greatest costs extraction/replacement, indicating general Cigarette adversely impacted cost-effectiveness, current heavy smokers experiencing no Former Grade C periodontitis benefitted most, whereas did not influence cost-effectiveness B periodontitis. Assessed "extraction/replacement," was cost-effective, which decreased a dose-response manner former intensity. should be factored into planning analyses treatment. Smoking cessation encouraged.
