Periodontitis, characterized by inflammatory loss of tooth-supporting tissues associated with biofilm, is among the most prevalent chronic diseases globally, affecting approximately 50% adult population to a moderate extent and cases severe periodontitis surpassing one billion mark. Proteomics analyses blood, serum, oral fluids have provided valuable insights into complex processes occurring in inflamed periodontium. However, until now, proteome been primarily limited small groups diseased versus healthy individuals. The emergence population-scale analysis proteomic data offers opportunities uncover disease-associated pathways, identify potential drug targets, discover biomarkers. In this review, we will explore applications proteomics population-based studies discuss advancements it brings our understanding periodontal inflammation. Additionally, highlight challenges posed currently available offer perspectives for future research. This review aims explain ongoing efforts leveraging elucidating complexities paving way clinical strategies.

Abstract Lateral flow assays (LFAs) are widely applicable in clinical point‐of‐care testing (POCT) due to their unique advantages such as simplicity, rapidity, and cost‐effectiveness. However, sensitivity is often constrained by the background autofluorescence of biological sample, self‐matrix, or readout technique, thereby leading overlooking trace amounts biomarkers present early disease. In recent years, various nanomaterials‐based methods have been developed address this issue, including time‐gated wavelength‐differentiated strategy external modulated for separation minimize interference from samples. This review provides a comprehensive overview low‐background luminescent nanoparticles (LBLNPs)‐enhanced LFA systems, focusing on analyzing underlying mechanism these nanomaterials improving accuracy LFAs platform diagnosis. Representative examples selected demonstrate potential detecting disease‐associated samples blood, urine, saliva et al. Finally, unresolved challenges future development prospects briefly discussed.

Functional foods play a crucial role in contemporary dietary strategies. This study investigates the incorporation of oregano oil, bioactive extract that is known for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, into gelatin-based gummy jellies to develop functional food products with controlled release properties. The were evaluated mass uniformity, swelling index, disintegration time, tensile strength under simulated oral gastric conditions. results showed oil significantly reduced index (e.g., 128.76 ± 0.67% at pH 5) prolonged time 6–18 min across environments), highlighting potential release. mechanical remained stable (5.2 0.3 N), ensuring structural integrity. These findings suggest oregano-oil-enriched offer health benefits, although further studies are needed explore their long-term stability bioavailability.

Background: Periodontitis is a global health crisis that affects almost half of the world’s population and commonly goes unnoticed because its asymptomatic pain-free nature. For early easy detection treatment, safe non-invasive chair-side oral fluid biomarker (aMMP-8) diagnostics new anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory anti-proteolytic treatment modalities have been developed, which this review aims to introduce. Methods: convenient diagnosis tackling periodontitis, adoption an aMMP-8 point-of-care rapid diagnostic test (POCT) has proposed, comparable home pregnancy COVID-19 antigen tests, be conveniently used by healthcare professionals patients themselves. To improve detected Finnish scientists also developed potentially industry-altering, biofilm-modulating, anti-inflammatory, (i) dual-light-activated photodynamic-therapy (2×PDT) (ii) fermented lingonberry juice (FLJ) rinse designed for personalized medicine professional use. These technologies are reviewed some unpublished results presented. Results: superior grade periodontitis (progression rate) when compared total latent/proform MMP-8 (total-MMP-8) microbial lipopolysaccharide (LPS/LAL) activity. Cut-off 20 ng/mL optimal cut-off POCT does not make false positives. Antibacterial 2× PDT light anti-microbial FLJ treatments can eliminate reduce problem-causing bacteria Candida-yeasts from mouth. Conclusions: shown promising could potential revolutionize diagnosis, prevention, care, plaque control maintenance. game-changer launched clinical field in dentistry: chemistry.

Background/Objectives: Nonsurgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) is the gold-standard technique for treating periodontitis. However, an individual's susceptibility or inadequate removal of subgingival biofilms could lead to unfavorable responses NSPT. This study aimed assess potential salivary and microbiological biomarkers in predicting site-specific whole-mouth outcomes Methods: A total 68 periodontitis patients exhibiting 1111 pockets 4 6 mm depth completed active phase treatment. Clinical parameters, saliva, biofilm samples were collected from each patient at baseline three months after quantitative PCR assay was used detect presence Fusobaterium nucleatum Porphyromonas gingivalis samples. Salivary including matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, glutathione S-transferase (GST), Annexin-1 assayed both qualitatively (Western blot analysis) quantitively (ELISA). Results: NSPT yielded significant improvements all clinical a reduction bacterial load decreased levels MMP-9 together with increased concentrations GST Annexin-1.
