We evaluated the association between two measures of social connection prior to COVID-19-social isolation and functional support-and loneliness during pandemic. The study was a retrospective longitudinal analysis 20,129 middle-aged older adults enrolled in Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). drew upon waves CLSA data spanning three years supplemental COVID-19 Questionnaire eight months conduct our analysis. Social associated with only among persons who were lonely before pandemic (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.17; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02, 1.35). Higher support inversely pandemic, when adjusting for pre-COVID-19 (aOR: 0.37; 95%CI: 0.34, 0.41) assessing incident relative risk: 0.59; CI: 0.55, 0.63). Policies are needed identify people both socially isolated lonely, provide them support, prevent worsening public health crises.

Abstract Background There are still many gaps in both national and international literature on elderly suicide. This study aimed to identify the most influential journals suicide, countries authors that contribute field, trends field. Material Methods Studies published suicide between 1951 2022 were retrieved utilising Web of Science Core Collection. Co‐authorship analysis authors, as well co‐occurrence keywords, conducted using VOSviewer 1.6.18. Results 2864 articles retrieved, including 95 countries, 889 academic journals, 9162 4160 keywords. The number publications this field has significantly increased after 2000s, United States is productive country (996). prolific author Yeates Conwell, while journal with highest International Journal Geriatric Psychiatry . Other than ‘suicide’ ‘elderly’, trending keywords ‘depression’, ‘primary care’, ‘treatment’, ‘antidepressant’, ‘loneliness’, ‘quality life’ ‘COVID‐19’. Conclusion been an increase thematic diversity quantity studies over time. However, these predominantly originate from socioeconomically affluent relatively low rates. While increasing numbers developing recent years promising, there a greater need for lower socioeconomic status prevention or intervention suicides.
