Domestication is a long and endless process during which animals become, generations after generations, more adapted to both captive conditions humans. Compared land animals, domestication of fish species has started recently. This implies that most farmed marine have only changed slightly from their wild counterparts, production based partly or completely on inputs. In the past decades, global increased tremendously, particularly since 1990s, reach than 2.2 million tons in 2013. Among 100 listed FAO’s database 2013, 35 are no longer produced, six higher 100,000 tons. The top ten accounted for nearly 90% production. future growth sustainability mariculture will depend our ability domesticate (i.e., control life cycle captivity) currently new species.

The increasing global population drives a rising demand for food, particularly fish as preferred protein source, straining capture fisheries. Overfishing has depleted wild stocks, emphasizing the need advanced aquaculture technologies. Unlike agriculture, not seen substantial technological advancements. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, cameras, and algorithms offer solutions to reduce human intervention, enhance productivity, monitor health, feed optimization, water resource management. However, challenges such data collection, standardization, model accuracy, interpretability, integration with existing systems persist. This review explores adoption AI techniques advance industry bridge gap between food supply demand.

Abstract Fish sperm motility is nowadays considered the best biomarker for quality of fish spermatozoa, and motion parameters from more than 300 species have been reported in 1500 scientific articles covering a wide range topics, molecular biology to ecology. The most studied topics (i) storage (involving both use chilled‐storage protocols short‐term periods cryopreservation techniques long‐term storage), (ii) physiology (fathom spermatozoa activation process whole propulsion machinery cells) (iii) broodstock management (covering aspects such as rearing conditions, dietary requirements or hormonal induction treatments). In addition, other aquaculture ecological (iv) knowledge breeding cycle species, (v) phenomenon competition (vi) ecotoxicological studies evaluation aquatic environments, also approached performance. Therefore, assessment can serve potential tool purposes, key fundamental applied research. This review gives an overview major research areas which has successfully.

Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia, is a center of native Nile tilapia populations, which are important for conservation and aquaculture development. in Ethiopia dominated by small-scale fish farming ponds, with seeds from poorly managed hatcheries wild sources. Hence, the development faces major hurdle owing to absence good-quality seeds, largely because lack genetic management practices within hatchery centers. This study aimed assess diversity differentiation among farmed populations inform strategies support robust strains advancement. Using ddRAD-seq technology SNP discovery, we assessed metrics across three Sebeta, Batu, Aweday, comprising 20, 21, 15 individuals, respectively. Expected heterozyosity ( H e ), observed heterozygosity o ) nucleotide π estimates indicated moderate within-population (mean: = 0.24, 0.25, 0.25). Pairwise F ST values revealed highest distance 0.067) between Batu Aweday while lowest 0.027) was Sebeta populations. STRUCTURE analysis identified two clusters, first cluster individuals some Aweday. Overall, our results show variation weak underscores importance documentation broodstock backgrounds formulation reasonable assist resources Ethiopia.

Inherited gene transcripts deposited in oocytes direct early embryonic development all vertebrates, but transcript profiles indicative of embryo developmental competence have not previously been identified. We employed artificial intelligence to model maternal ovary expression and their relationship egg quality, evaluated as production viable mid-blastula stage embryos, the striped bass (Morone saxatilis), a farmed species with serious quality problems. In models developed using neural networks (ANNs) supervised machine learning, collective changes limited suite genes (233) representing <2% queried transcriptome explained >90% eventual variance survival. Egg related minor (<0.2-fold), most individual making small contribution (<1%) overall prediction quality. These findings indicate that predictive power regards resides levels genes, rather collective, coordinated constituting transcriptomic "fingerprint". Correlation analyses corresponding candidate indicated dysfunction ubiquitin-26S proteasome, COP9 signalosome, subsequent control cell cycle engenders incompetence. The affected are centrally involved regulation including humans. By assessing relevant ovarian via ANNs we were able, for first time any vertebrate, accurately predict potential eggs from females. Our results show fingerprint evidencing is highly of, therefore likely regulate, biologically complex trait crucial reproductive fitness.

Although a relatively high number of sperm quality biomarkers have been reported over the years in several fish species, motility is nowadays considered best biomarker for spermatozoa. The first scientific reports focusing on date from century ago, but objective assessment allowed by computer-aided analysis (CASA-Mot) systems was not applied to species until mid-1980s. Since then, kinetic parameters more than 170 700 articles, covering wide range topics, such as physiology, storage, broodstock management, phenomenon competition, ecotoxicology and understanding life cycle species. provided CASA-Mot can serve powerful useful tools aquaculture ecological purposes, this review provides an overview major research areas which system has used successfully.
