Abstract Climate change and its associated extreme events alter a number of physiological processes that also affect the homeostatic relationship host with their microbial communities. The aim this study was to gain more insights on issue, examining effect record breaking-heat summer 2022 gut microbiota farmed gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), reared from May August at IATS research infrastructure (Spain´s Mediterranean coast). Fish were fed daily four experimental diets, containing two different lipid levels (16% 14%) with/without commercial emulsifier (0.1%; Volamel Aqua, Nukamel). On 9th, concurrently historical water temperature (30.49 ºC), fish sampled for analysis blood-stress markers water/intestinal microbiota. Gut clearly evidenced increased abundance bacteria Spirochaetota phylum, mainly represented by genus Brevinema. This shift not driven environmental colonization as remained residual in samples increase temperature. Bayesian network functional enrichment analyses suggested high Brevinema exploits negatively enhances condition imbalance intestinal homeostasis, which almost completely reversed use dietary emulsifiers combination low energized diets. phenotype restoration occurred concomitance changes circulating cortisol glucose. Altogether highlights potential heat-stress biomarker, reinforcing value intervention valuable solution mitigate negative impact global warming aquaculture production.

Fish were kept for six weeks at three different initial stocking densities and water O2 concentrations (low-LD, 8.5 kg/m3 95–70% saturation; medium-MD, 17 55–75% high-HD, 25 60–45% saturation), with temperature increasing from 19 °C to 26–27 °C. The improvement in growth performance the decrease density was related changes skin intestinal mucosal microbiomes. At level, microbial showed opposite trend two taxa, rendering low Reyranella high Prauserella This up-regulated host gene expression, affecting immune response, epithelial cell turnover, abiotic stress response.
