China, as the world's largest producer, trader, and consumer of aquatic foods, lacks comprehensive research on consumption patterns willingness to pay for sustainable food. This study addressed this gap through an online survey 3403 participants across Chinese provinces. A majority consumers (34.7% participants) consume food twice or more per week, mainly from traditional markets (26%). Most prefer fresh live products (76%), with 42% seeing no difference between farmed wild options. Consumption is higher among older, affluent, urban, coastal residents. Crustaceans, especially shrimp, are frequently consumed species, growing interest in luxury species like salmon abalone. Taste quality emerge primary factors motivating choices purchases. Food safety concern, followed by environmental impact. Notably, 92.4% would extra certified products. Factors influencing a include income, inland residence, price sensitivity, origin consciousness, concerns about environment. The findings highlight that China's industry can become aligning preferences high-quality diverse both production import, while also addressing related provides valuable insights into rapidly transforming market landscape, offering implications innovation promotion patterns.

Given the increasing global importance of low trophic level aquaculture (LTA) products (e.g. seaweed and mussels) for sustainable healthy seafood supply, this study examined consumer intentions towards LTA among European consumers. This performed an extended theory planned behaviour to focus on influence health consciousness, subjective knowledge, food neophobia, sociodemographic lifestyle factors consumers' buy products. We conducted online questionnaire survey in Denmark, United Kingdom France (~500 respondents per country). Consumer segmentation analysis, based food-related lifestyles, employing K-means clustering techniques, revealed five distinct segments, namely 'Adventurous', 'Uninvolved', 'Foodies', 'Rational', 'Conservative', each reflecting unique behavioural patterns. Furthermore, partial least squares structural equation modelling analysis that norms are main predictor product buying intention, followed by attitude, consciousness. neophobia seems moderate knowledge intention. dual approach explains predictive power model while identifying targeted segments marketing, ensuring distinction between model's test subsequent is clearly articulated. To enhance adoption products, marketers should primarily target 'Foodies' segment, characterised high involvement innovation, emphasizing attitudes, quality attributes, mitigating leveraging norms.

Aquaculture technology is on the move, enabling production in more open and exposed ocean environments around world. These new systems offer solutions to environmental challenges facing conventional aquaculture, yet technologies also create social while potentially exacerbating, or at minimum recreating, others. Offshore aquaculture research governance are still early stages, as our understanding of repercussions associated with development. This paper provides an evaluation reflection offshore from a science perspective based findings modified World Café group discussion method including thoughts experiences experts. Key uncertainties lack appropriate regulatory framework, societal perceptions aquaculture’s contribution society were identified. The implications these discussed well need for sciences address through transformative transdisciplinary approaches that bridge society.

Aquaculture and tourism can both be important industries for economic development, particularly in isolated geographies endowed with natural beauty. However, spatial conflict arise, along scenic coastlines, such as that Oban, Scotland. This area is notable the frequent overlap between marine tours cage culture sites, passing by or near these aquaculture locations. study aims to understand whether tourists who encounter operations during have positive attitudes toward aquaculture–tourism integration, which refers favourable perception acceptance of coexistence activities, this exposure influences their intention consume locally farmed aquatic products. A face-to-face survey was conducted recruit 200 experienced Hierarchical cluster analysis identified three types based on motivation: (1) Multiple motivations, (2) “Relaxers”, (3) “Outgoing nature enthusiasts”. Among tourist segments, “Relaxers” were unfamiliar concept farming food. In general, majority about being exposed tours. The results structural equation modelling indicated towards mediate relationship eat Motivational factors, socialisation, learning positively significantly influenced Compared age, gender, education, income, travel frequency, only tourists’ dietary patterns behavioural intention. findings suggest might serve a potential site social knowledge exchange, crucial not successful but also promoting aquaculture’s acceptability. used inform policymakers, marketers, aquaculture/tourism practitioners promote sustainable Scotland similar sites where coexist.

Abstract Fish monitoring is crucial for the aquaculture industry as it addresses economic losses and productivity challenges. Existing manual fish detecting methods are difficult time consuming, limiting their application in real‐time monitoring. To alleviate this challenge, there growing interest intelligent systems vision‐based health analysis. In study, we introduce DePondFi, a novel dataset designed various computer vision tasks underwater pond environments. The comprises images from different habitats South Indian ponds, with corresponding bounding box annotations. Our experiments analyze characteristics of evaluate performance single‐stage object detection models. YOLOv8 demonstrates highest effectiveness, achieving mean average precision (mAP@50) 0.92. By aggregating predictions applying non‐maximum suppression, our ensemble method improves robustness compared to individual models, an mAP@50 0.94. DePondFi serves valuable benchmark domain

Aquaculture is expanding rapidly to meet growing protein demands, now providing over 50% of aquatic animal food. Salmon farming especially important in Chile due its favorable conditions and cost advantages. However, the industry faces challenges, including environmental sustainability public perception. This study surveyed 396 people aged 18-65 Chile's Bio region about their knowledge views on salmon welfare. Results showed limited understanding: 76% were unaware information sources, 52% unsure industry's national role. Many viewed as nontransparent, environmentally harmful, poorly regulated, though economic impact led general acceptance. Knowledge welfare was low-43% reported little or none-but support for better protections high: 97% favored stronger measures 94% wanted more information. While 92% interest welfare-certified salmon, only 21% willing pay up 5% more. The underscores importance education transparency foster sustainable welfare-conscious aquaculture.
