Additive manufacturing (AM), commonly named 3D printing, is a promising technology for many applications. It the most viable option widespread use in automated construction processes, especially harsh environments such as underwater. Some contemporary applications of this have been tested underwater environments, but there are still number problems to be solved. This study focuses on current development printing applications, including required improvements itself, well new materials. Information about involving part fabrication via AM also provided. The article based literature review that supplemented by case studies practical main findings show usage additive can bring advantages—for instance, increasing work safety, limiting environmental burden, and high efficiency. Currently, only few prototype developed. However, tool develop new, effective larger scale. materials used, require optimization.

Abstract Technological innovations that improve the speed, scale, reproducibility, and accuracy of monitoring surveys will allow for a better understanding global decline in tropical reef health. The DiveRay, diver-operated hyperspectral imager, complementary machine learning pipeline to automate analysis imagery were developed this purpose. To evaluate use imager underwater, automated classification benthic taxa communities was tested. Eight reefs Guam surveyed two approaches employed: high taxonomic resolution categories broad categories. results from DiveRay validated against data concurrently conducted photoquadrat determine their utility as proxy surveys. classifications did not reliably predict when compared those obtained by standard analysis. As such, prediction is expected with additional surveying image annotation. first directly compare underwater scanning traditional survey techniques across multiple sites levels identification different degrees certainty. In recent years, additive manufacturing technologies have been employed for ecological projects, especially those connected with artificial reefs. This approach brings a lot of advantages, including the design more complex structures, surfaces fitted to needs water organisms. technology can effectively support and engineering, in restoration efforts. The main aim this article is demonstrate state art further perspectives development coral based on critical analysis literature, supported by selected case studies. describes current used creation reefs, putting emphasis manufacturing, evaluates currently materials, summarizes influence ecosystems through It also discusses challenges limitations 3D printing reefs as well presents trends directions. most important findings show that analyzed field promising interdisciplinary research area practical implementations require collaboration between specialists from different branches.

The island of Guam in the west Pacific has seen a significant decrease coral cover since 2013. Lafac Bay, marine protected area northeast Guam, served as reference site for benthic communities typical forereefs on windward side island. staghorn Acropora abrotanoides is dominant and characteristic ecosystem engineer forereef exposed shorelines. Photoquadrat surveys were conducted 2015, 2017, 2019, diver-operated hyperspectral imager (i.e., DiveRay) was used to survey same transects 2019. Machine learning algorithms develop an automated pipeline assess 10 biotic abiotic categories 2019 based imagery. scleractinian corals did not differ between 2015 2017 despite being subjected series environmental disturbances these years. Surveys documented almost complete decline habitat-defining (a practically disappearance from about 10% cover), (~75%) other corals, increase (~55%) combined bare substrate, turf algae, cyanobacteria. drastic change community composition suggests that reef at Bay transitioning algae-dominated community. However, capacity this recover previous transition could be reversed, making excellent candidate long-term monitoring. Community analyses showed no difference automatically classified estimates derived scans those photoquadrats. These findings suggest underwater imagers can efficient effective tools fast, frequent, accurate monitoring dynamic communities.
