To quantify the role of state-level lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+)-related policies on experiences discrimination in a population-representative sample partnered individuals. An adjusted multilevel random-intercept logistic regression model with individuals (level-1) nested within states (level-2) cross-level interaction term between gender/sexual identity policy score was used to estimate predicted probability any for cisgender heterosexual, transgender non-binary, sexual minority respondents. Recent research highlights the lack of knowledge and reduced skills health care professionals in communicating with people from LGBTQIA+ community. This often occurs due to continuing education on social issues sector. Abstract State‐level hate crime laws are a proposed solution for pernicious effects endured by transgender and gender diverse (e.g., no‐binary, queer) (TGD) communities. The present study investigated the following correlates of psychological distress, suicidal behavior, discrimination experiences among TGD adults: law statutes identity protection), state‐level attitudes conservative ideology), individual‐level marginalized identities sexual minority status). Participants were all adults in 2015 United States Transgender Survey (USTS). We merged three data sources: USTS, Cooperative Congressional Election Study, Anti‐Defamation League's Hate Crime Map. employed bivariate logistic regression analyses. Prominent findings spanning whole sample included: (a) worse distress was associated with living state greater anti‐TGD an absence protections; (b) 12‐month behavior police collection statutes; (c) holding multiple identities, particularly having disability, strongest risk factor experiencing negative outcomes. Gender and sexual minorities still face stigma-related stress from all areas of society. The rejection-identification model (RIM) proposes that some stigmatized individuals may respond to the negative effects stigma on well-being by enhancing their self-identification. However, this does not apply gender minorities. Grounded in minority theory RIM, study examined how stressors (i.e. perceived self-stigma) associated mechanisms impact self-identification subjective well-being. A total 366 Chinese gay bisexual men were included study. results showed self-identification, as a protective factor, mediated association between Furthermore, indirect effect mediation was moderated self-stigma, such through highest among with low self-stigma. Given research into mental health is its infancy, our findings are important help developing improving socially psychologically sensitive counseling services or intervention strategies for these populations.
