The present study investigated why this happened and hypothesized that self-determination theory’s (SDT’s) basic needs (BPNs) may play a role in explanation. Based on SDT, cross-sectional both the satisfaction frustration of BPNs mediated associations between fear COVID-19, post-traumatic growth (PTG), stress (PTS) symptoms. A sample 391 Peruvian adults (70.6% women; M age = 35.04, range 18 84) responded to several valid reliable questionnaires: Fear Scale (FCV.19S); Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Frustration (BPNSFS); Impact Event Scale-Revised (IES-R); Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). results showed need association PTG, positive PTG. In addition, direct effect was found from toward PTS importance considering SDT’s explaining PTG after experiencing COVID-19.

Abstract Background People’s perceived risk of being infected and having severe illness was conceived as a motivational source adherence to behavioral measures during the COVID-19 crisis. Methods We used online self-reported data, spanning 20 months crisis in Belgium ( n = 221,791; 34.4% vaccinated; July 2020 - March 2022) study association between perception motivation. Results Both infection probability severity fluctuated across time function characteristics emerging variants, with unvaccinated persons perceiving decreasingly less compared vaccinated ones. Perceived (and not probability) most critical predictor autonomous motivation for health-protective measures, pattern observed at both between-day between-person level among individuals. An integrated process model further indicated that on days higher hospitalization load, participants reported more adherent because were elevated these days. Conclusions These findings suggest served dynamic resource it fostered greater regulation.

We investigated the social, emotional, and cognitive predictors of adherence to four health behaviors (handwashing, mask wearing, social contact limitations, physical distancing) during one critical phase COVID-19 pandemic. collected data ( N = 5803, mean age 53; 57% women) in Belgium at five time points between April July 2021, a which infections evolved from high (third wave pandemic) low numbers cases. The results show that achieved levels explained variance R 2 > .60). In particular, central components behavioral change (attitudes, intentions, control, habits, norms, risk) were strongest most consistent over time. Likewise, autonomous motivation empathetic emotions (e.g., attentive, compassionate) had positive impact on behavior adherence, whereas it was opposite for lively active, enthusiastic). These offer policymakers actionable insights into potent stable factors associated with behaviors, equipping them effective strategies curtail spread future infectious diseases.

Public debate available literature point possible role people's attitudes towards medical institutions as well their preference for complementary alternative medicine (CAM) on motivations intentions be vaccinated. Other potential ideological factors are beliefs about environmental laissez‐faire divine providence insofar they encourage people let pandemic unfold without human interference. three cross‐sectional samples (total N = 8214), collected at successive moments during Belgian vaccination campaign, present research examines distal these psychological via motivational processes. Study 1 gauges relation between trust in CAM get vaccinated motivations. 2 examined desirability letting nature take its course (‘environmental beliefs’) intention 3 tests whether adherence linked CAM. Results show that has deleterious effect intentions, whereas positive effect. Using an online survey, 12,670 participants (46% female; M age = 45.9, SD 13.38) reported their perception, number of doses (0/1, 2, 3 doses) as well anticipated psychological outcomes each scenario. Mixed model ANCOVA showed a pattern preferential scenario more positive (general well‐being government appraisals) compared that treated equivalently. An exception was found when people vaccinated with three perceived high risk. Taken separately, status not sufficient drive attitudes toward policies; only interaction had effect. Limitations include self‐selected sample vignette methodology. The conjunct role should be considered discussing introduction policies. These findings strategies management during pandemics.
