Objective Native American adolescents are disproportionately burdened by suicidality. Here, we examine patterns of reporting suicide ideation and attempt among youth compared to those from other ethnoracial backgrounds, as this data is important for grounding commonly subscribed frameworks risk (e.g., ideation-to-action).Method Data the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey (N = 54,243; grades 9–12; 51.0% female) Minnesota Student 335,151; 8, 9, 11; 50.7% female). Comparing peers examined two patterns: 1) odds who reported 2) an attempt. Results Across both samples, when ideation, backgrounds were 20–55% less likely than also report attempt. While few consistent differences observed between racial minority in co-reporting across White 37% 63% a without ideation. Conclusions The increased engaging with or question generalizability widely held have implications monitoring. Suicide is a leading cause of death among adolescents, and recent suicide theories have sought to clarify the factors that facilitate transition from ideation action. Specifically, Interpersonal Theory (IPTS), Integrated Motivational-Volitional Model (IMV), Three Step (3ST) highlighted risk central formation suicidal behaviors, which necessary for death. However, these models were initially developed tested adults, given core socioemotional neurodevelopmental differences in applicability remains unclear. Directly addressing this gap knowledge, systematic review aimed (1) describe evidence ideation-to-action (i.e., IPTS, IMV, 3ST) as they relate (2) integrate within prevailing biological frameworks adolescent suicide, (3) provide recommendations future research. Overall, few studies provided complete test samples, empirical research testing components mixed support. Future would benefit integrating developmentally sensitive psychosocial increase adolescents. Further, utilizing real-time monitoring approaches may serve further temporal association suicide.

Differentiating between adolescent suicidal self-harm (SSH) and nonsuicidal (NSSH) is a significant challenge for mental health professionals, its feasibility controversial. The aim of the present study was to determine whether SSH can be differentiated from NSSH based on holistic analysis individual, psychological, sociodemographic, environmental data without relying intent acquired capability suicide assess findings' compatibility with current theories suicide. also sought compare result four suicide: interpersonal theory suicide, three-steps theory, integrated motivational-volitional model, suicidality self-destruction. Exploratory factor suggested eight factors clustering important risk protective indicators: 1) disordered eating future orientation, 2) sleep disturbance, 3) orientation toward affects self, 4) risk-taking behavior, 5) peer relationships, 6) victimization, safety, security, 7) family 8) substance use. results indicated that despite their high comorbidity, suicide-related information. These supported partially ideation-to-action theories.

Abstract Introduction The Interpersonal‐Psychological Theory of Suicide proposes that capability for suicide is acquired through exposure to painful and provocative events (PPEs). Although there robust evidence a positive association between aggregate measures PPEs risk suicidal behavior, little known about the contributions physical injuries. present study investigated relationship injuries subsequent attempt (SA). Methods Data were from Swedish population‐based registers. All individuals born in Sweden 1970 1990 included ( N = 1,011,725 females 1,067,709 males). We used Cox regression models test associations 10 types (eye injury; fracture; dislocation/sprain/strain; injury nerves spinal cord; blood vessels; intracranial crushing internal traumatic amputation; other or unspecified injuries) later SA. Background Suicide is a major public health crisis among youth. Several prominent theories, including the Interpersonal Theory of (IPTS), aim to characterize factors leading from suicide ideation action. These theories are largely based on findings in adults and require testing elaboration adolescents. Methods Data were examined high‐risk 13–18‐year‐old adolescents ( N = 167) participating multi‐wave, longitudinal study; 63% sample exhibited current suicidal thoughts or recent behaviors n 105). The study included 6‐month follow‐up period with clinical interviews self‐report measures at each four assessments as well weekly smartphone‐based behaviors. Regression structural equation models used probe hypotheses related core tenets IPTS. Results Feelings perceived burdensomeness associated more severe self‐reported b 0.58, t (158) 7.64, p < .001). Similarly, was frequent smartphone ratings 0.11, (1460) 3.41, Contrary IPTS hypotheses, neither feelings thwarted belongingness, nor interactions between belongingness significantly s > .05). Only elevated depression severity greater odds events (i.e., attempts, psychiatric hospitalizations, and/or emergency department visits for concerns) during (OR 1.83, 2.44, .01). No effect acquired capability found. Conclusions Perceptions others reflect critical risk factor Null other constructs may suggest need adopt developmentally sensitive interpersonal Refining methods theoretical help improve identification cases inform intervention.
