Why do adolescents attempt suicide? Insights from leading ideation-to-action suicide theories: a systematic review

Suicide
is
a
leading
cause
of
death
among
adolescents,
and
recent
suicide
theories
have
sought
to
clarify
the
factors
that
facilitate
transition
from
ideation
action.
Specifically,
Interpersonal
Theory
(IPTS),
Integrated
Motivational-Volitional
Model
(IMV),
Three
Step
(3ST)
highlighted
risk
central
formation
suicidal
behaviors,
which
necessary
for
death.
However,
these
models
were
initially
developed
tested
adults,
given
core
socioemotional
neurodevelopmental
differences
in
applicability
remains
unclear.
Directly
addressing
this
gap
knowledge,
systematic
review
aimed
(1)
describe
evidence
ideation-to-action
(i.e.,
IPTS,
IMV,
3ST)
as
they
relate
(2)
integrate
within
prevailing
biological
frameworks
adolescent
suicide,

provide
recommendations
future
research.
Overall,
few
studies
provided
complete
test
samples,
empirical
research
testing
components
mixed
support.
Future

benefit
integrating
developmentally
sensitive
psychosocial

Abstract
Introduction
