ABSTRACT
Scholars
have
extensively
written
about
how
convivial
cross‐cultural
encounters,
driven
by
global
mobility,
underpin
mutual
understanding
and
cosmopolitan
aspirations.
However,
little
attention
has
been
paid
to
encounters
that
cause
friction
or
require
considerable
effort
bridge
differences.
This
paper
centres
on
conflictual
negative
experiences
of
encountering
cultural
diversity
through
the
lens
Global
South
Fulbright
students
in
Boston
area
United
States.
As
one
most
prestigious
educational
exchange
programmes
States,
Program
advocates
for
diplomacy,
its
participants
are
regarded
as
ambassadors
enhance
understandings.
By
examining
unfavourable
these
cosmopolitan‐oriented
students,
I
develop
a
framework
analyse
fragility
cosmopolitanism
produced
interpersonal,
structural
circumstantial
causes,
leading
their
withdrawal
from
cosmopolitanism.

Drawing
on
ethnic
boundary‐making
literature,
this
study
investigates
how
Korean
newspapers
and
readers
adjusted
their
boundaries
towards
Asian
migrants
in
response
to
the
evolving
phases
of
COVID‐19
pandemic.
We
analyzed
extent
nature
coverage
five
major
anti‐Asian
racism
US
published
between
January
1
May
24,
2020,
along
with
associated
reader
comments.
During
maintenance
phase,
marked
by
persistent
concerns
about
resurgence
infections,
we
observed
highest
number
articles
most
significant
disparities
media's
portrayal
reactions.
Contrary
newspapers,
perceived
racist
threat
faced
differently
depending
pandemic
circumstances,
displaying
a
more
flexible
boundary‐making.

Despite
the
recent
surge
in
scholarly
attention
to
anti‐Asian
racism,
what
is
largely
missing
this
growing
body
of
literature
a
bridge
connecting
studies
on
subject
broader
field
race
and
ethnicity
studies.
In
special
issue,
we
propose
use
concept
transculturality,
which
defined
as
process
cultural
interaction,
interpenetration,
hybridization
that
transcends
traditional
borders
individual
cultures,
establish
connection.

critically

concepts

interculturality,
multiculturality
ethnicity.
Upon
review,
explain
how
transculturality
advances
knowledge

ideas,
