Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects sebaceous-rich areas such as the scalp, face, and upper trunk. While precise etiology remains multifactorial, role of microbiome, particularly proliferation Malassezia species, alterations in barrier function are critical its pathogenesis. Disruption barrier, characterized by increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) reduced production epidermal lipids, creates favorable environment for microbial overgrowth inflammation. Recent insights highlight interplay between impaired function, immune responses, microbiome perpetuating disease. Additionally, novel dermocosmetic approaches emerging target these underlying mechanisms, offering promising therapeutic avenues. This review provides comprehensive overview involvement dysfunction seborrheic discusses potential advanced treatments aimed at restoring homeostasis preventing recurrence.
