Plant-derived oils provide 20%-35% of dietary calories and are a primary source essential omega-6 (linoleic) omega-3 (α-linolenic) fatty acids. While traditional breeding has significantly increased yields in key oilseed crops like soybean, sunflower, canola, peanut, cottonseed, overall gains have plateaued over the past few decades. Oilseed also experience substantial yield losses both prime marginal agricultural areas due to biotic abiotic stresses shifting agro-climates. Recent genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomics research expanded our understanding genetic physiological control acid biosynthesis composition. Many species inherent stress-combating mechanisms, including transcription factor regulation. Advances genome editing tools CRISPR/Cas9 offer precise modifications, targeting factors binding sites enhance desirable traits, such as nutritional profile chemical composition This review explores application improvement, covering recent progress, challenges, future potential boost oil content. These advancements could play transformative role developing resilient, nutritious crop varieties for sustainable food security changing climate.

Soybean is a crucial crop globally, serving as significant source of unsaturated fatty acids and protein in the human diet. However, further enhancements are required for related genes that regulate soybean oil synthesis. In this study, 155 germplasms were cultivated under three different environmental conditions, followed by phenotypic identification genome-wide association analysis using simplified sequencing data. Genome-wide was performed SLAF-seq A total 36 QTLs significantly associated with content (-log10(

Abstract Background Soybean ( Glycine max ) is a vital oil-producing crop. Augmenting oleic acid (OA) levels in soybean oil enhances its oxidative stability and health benefits, representing key objective breeding. Pongamia pinnata ), known for abundant oil, OA, flavonoid the seeds, holds promise as biofuel medicinal plant. A comparative analysis of lipid biosynthesis pathways seeds would facilitate assessment potential value advance genetic improvements seed traits both species. Results The study employed multi-omics to systematically compare differences metabolite accumulation associated biosynthetic genes between at transcriptional, metabolic, genomic levels. results revealed that OA predominant free fatty being 8.3 times more than seeds. Lipidomics unveiled notably higher triacylglycerols (TAGs) compared with 23 TAG species containing OA. Subsequently, we identified orthologous groups (OGs) involved across 25 gene families genomes soybean, expression these OGs two Among twice high one acyl-ACP thioesterase (FATA) stearoyl-ACP desaturases (SADs), responsible biosynthesis, along phospholipid:diacylglycerol acyltransferases (PDATs) three acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol (DGATs), biosynthesis. Furthermore, observed significantly content formononetin by over 2000-fold. This difference may be attributed tandem duplication expansions 2,7,4ʹ-trihydroxyisoflavanone 4ʹ-O-methyltransferases (HI4ʹOMTs) genome, which are final step combined their Conclusions extends beyond observations made single-species research offering novel insights into molecular basis from cross-species perspective.
