Abstract Durability is increasingly recognized as a determinant of cycling performance. However, its reliability remains unknown. In this study, we assessed the repeatability durability (determined decline in power output after accumulated work). We recorded highest values (maximum mean values) attained by 18 professional cyclists (27±4 y) during training and competition for different effort durations (10 s 1, 5, 10, 20 min) levels work (0–40 kJ/kg) season. Repeatability was examined through standard error measurement intra-class correlation coefficient calculated from two maximum obtained each cyclist duration level work. A progressive compared to non-fatigued state observed higher work, particularly kJ/kg (p<0.001). All showed high under fatigue states (all measurement<5% coefficient>0.90), with lowest shortest efforts (10-s power). These findings were confirmed separately sessions competitions, albeit lower (standard measurement<8% coefficient>0.80). The measure appears therefore reliable, which might support validity monitoring field-based performance cyclists.

Endurance athletes routinely complete physiological assessments to predict performance, inform training programmes and monitor subsequent adaptations. This profiling is typically performed with the athlete in a 'fresh' (i.e., rested) condition, but variables deteriorate during prolonged exercise. Durability has been defined as resilience deterioration of performance or following Herein, we review current approaches measure durability. The construction fatiguing protocol affects durability profiles, greater relative intensity duration resulting more marked baseline measures. design should control for factors that could impact measurements, such nutrition environmental characteristics, ensure outcomes are repeatable can be compared between over time same athlete. selection these parameters based on proposed research question applied context take account status Accordingly, this highlights important considerations protocols practice appropriate.
