Abstract Porous carbon materials have demonstrated exceptional performance in a variety of energy‐ and environment‐related applications. Over the past decades, tremendous efforts been made coordinated design fabrication porous nanoarchitectures terms pore sizes, surface chemistry, structure. Herein, structure‐oriented applications are reviewed. The unique properties that offer them promising opportunities broad applicability some representative fields, including water remediation, CO 2 capture, lithium‐ion batteries, lithium–sulfur lithium metal anodes, Na‐ion K‐ion supercapacitors, oxygen reduction reaction highlighted. Then, most up‐to‐date strategies for structural control functionalization carbons summarized, toward tailoring microporous, mesoporous, macroporous, hierarchically with disordered or ordered, amorphous graphitic structures. Meanwhile, emerging features these structures various introduced where applicable. Finally, insights into challenges perspectives future development provided.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted tremendous interest due to their promising applications including electrocatalysis originating from unique structural features. However, it remains a challenge directly use MOFs for oxygen because is quite difficult manipulate dimension, composition, and morphology of the with abundant active sites. Here, facile ambient temperature synthesis NiCoFe-based trimetallic MOF nanostructures foam-like architecture reported, which exhibit extraordinary evolution reaction (OER) activity as used catalyst in alkaline condition. Specifically, (Ni2 Co1 )0.925 Fe0.075 -MOF-NF delivers minimum overpotential 257 mV reach current density 10 mA cm-2 small Tafel slope 41.3 dec-1 exhibits high durability after long-term testing. More importantly, deciphering possible origination performed through characterization intermediates during OER process, where electrochemically transformed metal hydroxides oxyhydroxides are confirmed species.

With many apparent advantages including high surface area, tunable pore sizes and topologies, diverse periodic organic–inorganic ingredients, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been identified as versatile precursors or sacrificial templates for preparing functional materials advanced electrodes high-efficiency catalysts electrochemical energy storage conversion (EESC). In this Mini Review, we first briefly summarize the material design strategies to show rich possibilities of chemical compositions physical structures MOFs derivatives. We next highlight latest advances focusing on composition/structure/performance relationship discuss their practical applications in various EESC systems, such supercapacitors, rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, water electrolyzers, carbon dioxide/nitrogen reduction reactions. Finally, provide some our own insights into major challenges prospective solutions MOF-derived EESC, hoping shed light future development highly exciting field.
