Densification through infill developments is a common planning strategy where both advantages and problems have been brought forward. However, the knowledge on how such affect residents their relations to local outdoor environments limited. Also, modernist areas highlighted as heritage with specific values. We studied case of multi-family housing area in Uppsala, Sweden, originally planned 1960s part Swedish welfare era later affected by densification development. The mixed-methods approach included document analysis observations followed an online survey focused use of, perceived qualities satisfaction among residents. results revealed careful during concerning green space availability solutions limiting car traffic, recent affecting different sub-areas various degrees. Respondents living non-densified reported higher levels satisfaction, more varied environment compared densified sub-areas. management level was considered too low mainly one Many respondents up loss development, construction work result, less spaces increased traffic. This study large negative effects for that focuses density without securing sufficient but also neglected open management.

This study investigated the associations between exposure to different types of natural spaces and depression among urban older adults explored potential mediators. We used data on 631 participants aged ≥60 from EPIPorto cohort (Porto, Portugal). Depressive symptoms were measured using Geriatric Depression Scale. assessed greenness in residential surroundings Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) evaluated accessibility green blue spaces. Metrics calculated separately for agricultural, natural, logistic regression estimate mediation analysis examine mediating effects air pollution, temperature, physical exercise, social support, activities. Living near was associated with lower odds (OR = 0.21, 95% CI 0.03–0.74). Contrastingly, agricultural higher 1.69, 1.02–2.79 OR 1.80, 1.23–2.64, respectively). No found NDVI, spaces, or space size. Social support explained a significant proportion (33.9%, p 0.044) total effect type nearest depression. These findings suggest that enhancing holds promise as strategy mitigating adults.
