Abstract Several studies have noted that the International Seabed Authority (ISA) scores low on public participation. However, none studied efforts of non-governmental organizations to exert influence ISA’s rulemaking processes. Efficient acoustic communication across the water–air interface has always been expected in field of ocean exploration. However, existing research works are mainly concentrated on narrow-band transmission based resonance, which greatly limits capacity and efficiency. Here, we combined air-based water-based metafluids to realize an exponential gradient impedance matching layer for broadband sound transmission. By cooperatively adjusting velocity thickness layers, modulated required parameters each into a reasonable range, can be conveniently achieved by proposed metafluids. Marine protected areas (MPAs) have been identified as one of the most effective tools to halt marine biodiversity loss. However, conflicting evidence from disparate, small-scale studies obfuscate a cohesive global picture role that MPAs can play in enhancing local fisheries through spillover benefits. The pros and cons of deep-sea mining (DSM) is currently hotly debated. Here, we assess the environmental, economic, social risks DSM by comparing scenarios with without involvement. “Without” scenario relies solely on land-based circular economy solutions, while “With” incorporates alongside strategies, highlighting dangers heavy dependence. Through literature review expert interviews, our study identifies key risk indicators across dimensions, forming a comprehensive assessment framework. application qualitative data fuzzy cognitive mapping, analysis reveals that environmental factors are most influential (centrality: 1.46), followed (1.32) economic (1.0) factors. In “With DSM” scenario, all show increased risks, factors, particularly “coastal state vulnerability,” experiencing 13% rise. Social including “violation law,” “participatory rights,” “lack effective control,” “degraded reputation,” increase 8–11%, such as “contractual violations,” special provision,” “knowledge gap assistance fund” disputes among “multiple stakeholders,” see an 11% uptick. With the increasing demand for mineral resources and continuous depletion of terrestrial deposits, deep-sea mining has garnered significant attention from governments, industries, research institutions. However, current technologies remain incompletely developed, their environmental impacts cannot be overlooked. Increased suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) are a major stressor across aquatic habitats. Here, the literature was synthesized to show that animal responses increases in relative SSC (test concentration/natural background concentration) were similar type and negative different shallow-water (marine, estuarine, freshwater) Further, sensitivities habitats based on occur starting at low all despite differences natural SSC. Based upon these similarities sensitivities, deep-sea sensitivity values for acute exposure increased SSC, where empirical data almost non-existent, estimated.
