Abstract This paper uses time-varying smooth transition autoregressive model to investigate the asymmetric nature of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) —an exogenous climatic factor—with respect nonlinear dynamics food prices in sub-Saharan Africa. Curating price series from more than 1100 markets 36 SSA countries, study finds that ENSO (linearly or nonlinearly) affects roughly half considered, with most models exhibiting strong properties shock-inflicted persistence. Moreover, terms location burden impact, I find a geographical and product divide. Specifically, appears be efficacious on maize Southern, Eastern, some parts Central Conversely, local rice, cassava, millet, animal products are least affected. The policy implication this dichotomy is response news should subregion-specific rather region-specific, depending how subregions absorb shock.

Abstract The photocatalytic conversion of CO 2 into products such as CH 4 and C H 6 poses a significant challenge due to the lengthy reaction steps high energy barrier involved. In this study, both benzothiadiazole (BTD) hydroxyl groups (‐OH) are introduced cobalt‐based polymerized porphyrinic network (PPN) through C‐C coupling reaction. This modification orbital levels that strengthens ability gain electrons facilitates charge transfer in PPN. Hydroxyl group largely enhances for light response, while thiadiazole unit tunes molecular proper level. By way, BTD‐DBP‐PPN(Co) achieves capability under irradiation light. Co active site is reduce facilitate transfer. pathway production has been studied further mechanism explanation. Overall, series porphyrin centers with donor–acceptor (D‐A) structure designed synthesized enhance reduction performance achieve formation 300‐W Xe lamp irradiation.

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a periodic climate phenomenon with important consequences for weather and socioeconomic variables worldwide. This paper investigates the effect of Niño on concentration salts in soils fresh water. Our analysis shows effects that are statistically significant large magnitude. In particular, response to events, soil salinity increases by 21% northern region United States, where average temperatures positively affected, while it decreases 29% southern tiers country, decline. Similarly, water 9% warmer counties, 53% lower cooler counties.

The unsupervised and principled diagnosis of multiscale data is a fundamental obstacle in modern scientific problems from, for instance, weather climate prediction, neurology, epidemiology, turbulence. Multiscale are characterized by combination processes acting along multiple dimensions simultaneously, spatiotemporal scales across orders magnitude, nonstationarity, and/or invariances such as translation rotation. Existing methods not well-suited to data, usually requiring supervised strategies human intervention, extensive tuning, or selection ideal time periods. We present the multiresolution coherent spatio-temporal scale separation (mrCOSTS), hierarchical automated algorithm patterns modes data. mrCOSTS variant dynamic mode decomposition which decomposes into bands spatial with shared dynamics, thereby providing robust method analyzing It requires no training but instead takes advantage nature systems. demonstrate using complex datasets that canonically difficult analyze: 1) sea surface temperature, 2) electrophysiological observations neural signals motor cortex, 3) horizontal wind mountain boundary layer. With mrCOSTS, we trivially retrieve dynamics were previously resolve while additionally extracting hitherto unknown activity embedded allowing advancing understanding these fields study. This an important advancement addressing characterize many grand challenges science engineering.

Abstract El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is known to modulate rainfall variability in parts of the conterminous United States (US). Owing complexity climate system, US winter (DJF) precipitation response ENSO investigated. By regressing autoencoder neural network‐based types (i.e., encoded tropical Pacific Sea surface temperature anomaly patterns) onto DJF precipitation, supplemented with support vector regression and extreme gradient‐boosting regression, we show that modulation regionally sensitive type. Certain regions exhibit significant nonlinear relationships between strong event phase was most pronounced over eastern northwestern quadrants US. The coherency varies among individual events. Specifically, events, differences SST patterns were linked meridional shifts positioning jet stream. This leads variable anomalous upper‐level flow atmospheric conditions influencing during analyzing associations whilst assessing consistency anomalies identify regional likelihood consistent responses, thereby calibrating confidence seasonal ENSO‐precipitation responses.
