The widespread use of electric lighting has revolutionised society but brought unintended consequences, notably light pollution, impacting ecosystems and human circadian rhythms. Concerns about anthropogenic at night (ALAN) have prompted innovative solutions, such as spectral tuning sources. In Europe, a recent focus involves the enforcement red in outdoor settings to minimise ALAN’s impact, particularly on bats. This mini review synthesises literature provide an overview advantages disadvantages outdoors. There is need for further examination potential ecological consequences light, considering challenges design functionality broader impacts diverse species.

The threat posed by light pollution to human health is increasing remarkably. As demand for high-efficiency and bright lighting increases, so does the blue content from artificial sources. Although animal studies suggested induced depression-like behaviors, evidence remained limited, mechanisms which affects depression elusive. This study aimed investigate association between exposure in humans, explored underlying that driving behaviors light. Our population findings showed high-blue-light at night was positively associated with depressive symptoms. Lactic acid relevant Mendelian randomization analysis. Moreover, demonstrated during sleep (BLS) animals. Metabolomics colorimetric analyses revealed elevated levels of lactic cerebrospinal fluid lateral habenula (LHb) rats BLS. administration a lactate inhibitor (Oxamate) alleviated these along changes neuronal excitability, synaptic function, morphology LHb. Overall, our suggests excessive high light-content links increased symptoms, revealing possible molecular prevention strategies, are crucial addressing environmentally related mental issues.

Environmental light pollution adversely affects brain function, disturbing circadian rhythms and negatively impacting human health. Nanoplastics (NPs) is pervasive in the environment, their minuscule size facilitates entry into body, particularly invading compromising its functionality. However, whether NPs infiltrate rhythm-regulated regions disrupt organisms remains unclear. Our study demonstrates that exposure to mice perturbs normal rhythms. Specifically, invade suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), affecting clock genes network altering regular oscillations of core genes. Exposure renders intrinsic more susceptible disruption by pollution, resulting pronounced disorder metabolism, immune regulation, function. This work first investigate combined effects ambient on mammalian health, our findings suggest amplify health impacts pollution. These also highlight efforts mitigate risks from environmental pollutants should begin consider synergistic various classes pollutants.

Excessive use of artificial light sources has led to a significant increase in pollution, which raised serious concerns due its adverse effects on lipid metabolism. Although moderate static magnetic fields (SMFs) have shown potential health intervention and treatment as non-invasive highly permeable physical field, the influence SMFs metabolic disturbance induced by lights remains largely unknown. In this study, we explored metabolism Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) under varying wavelengths ranging from 395 nm 635 nm, both presence absence 0.5 T SMF, elucidated their underlying mechanisms. Exposure C. at 200 lux resulted shortened lifespan while significantly increasing fat accumulation wavelength-dependent manner. The SMF extended reduced size droplets, well content triglyceride exposed worms. These were achieved upregulating expression genes related lipolysis downregulating synthesis. Moreover, alleviated abnormalities caused through regulation iron ions. Our findings provided clear evidence that protective via mediating homeostasis, might contribute better understanding combined photomagnetic living organisms.

Abstract Background The biological reproductive process requires the precise coordination of annual and daily signals to adapt environmental shifts. Humans animals have developed shared neuroendocrine systems that adapted seasonal light within hypothalamic–pituitary —gonadal axis. However, stability circadian processes is at risk due industrialization contemporary round‐the‐clock lifestyles. These threats include skipping breakfast, excessive artificial illumination during inappropriate hours because irregular work schedules, nighttime urban lighting, widespread pollution from endocrine‐disrupting chemicals. This review aimed explore interplay between lifestyle factors, rhythms, functions. Methods examined reciprocal influences clocks on hormones, exploring underlying mechanisms their implications for fertility health. We emphasized key findings regarding molecular clock components, endocrine pathways, critical importance synchronizing rhythms with hormonal cycles. Main Findings intersection endocrinology biology reveals complex interactions regulation rhythms. Circadian rhythm misalignments including late‐night negatively impact Conclusions More strategies are needed mitigate effects disruption

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a growing environmental issue associated with negative health outcomes. Yet, there dearth of evidence concerning its effect on blood pressure (BP), especially in Ghana. This study examined the associations between ALAN, pressure, and hypertension. The used data from 13,784 participants 2014 Ghana Demographic Health Survey (GDHS). VIIRS Nighttime Day/Night Band dataset within Google Earth was to assess ALAN. Data BP were obtained GDHS. Linear logistic mixed effects models analyze data. Findings showed that higher ALAN score systolic (SBP), diastolic (DBP), odds We observed percentages SBP, DBP, hypertension among majority ethnic populations compared minority. Public interventions should aim reduce exposure benefit human health.
