Sedimentary organic matter (SOM) affects the stability of aquatic carbon pool. The degradation process SOM is complex for its multifaceted composition. concentration and properties affect steady state, yet transformation processes in lakes remain unclear. Here we show molecular redox perspectives polluted sediments with high content diverse vegetation. We find significant differences fractions across various sites. origin matter, determined using excitation-emission matrix spectra, influences consistency composition biochemical lacustrine sediment. also observe that sulfur-containing substances decrease chain length reduce stability. Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry shows degree saturation cause reduction. In contrast, nitrogen-containing compounds increase modified aromaticity index humin content, enhancing complexity (p < 0.05). These results complement characteristics transformations SOM. a broader perspective, this study contributes to laying foundation understanding cycle future effects.

The quality and chemodiversity of aquatic dissolved organic matter (DOM), crucial to global carbon cycling ecological functions, are affected by microbial anthropogenic activities. In this study, molecular characteristics DOM collected from 14 field water samples were compared with three standard the International Humic Substances Society using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS). Results indicated that microbially terrestrially derived contributed surface groundwater pool, higher lability (higher H/Ciw) in than IHSS standards, which was related overall impact diverse biogeochemical processes factors. perturbations contribute more nonoxygen heteroatomic (N, S, Cl atoms) molecules water, pollutants (surfactants sucralose) had significant signatures waters intensive emissions. A strong correlation among indicators, nutrients, synthetic results activities within basin heteroatoms increased diversity. This study has highlighted environmental reflecting factors, shedding new insights into freshwater health.

Microplastics (MPs) have become a global hotspot due to their widespread distribution in recent years. MPs frequently interact with dissolved organic matter (DOM) and microbes, thereby influencing the carbon fate of soils. However, role plant presence regulating MPs-mediated changes DOM microbial structure remains unclear. Here, we compared mechanisms soil response 3 common nonbiodegradable absence or radish (Raphanus sativus L. var. radculus Pers) plants. Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS) analysis revealed that reduced chemodiversity biodiversity (DOM). enhanced degradation lignin-like compounds stability. Comparative showed caused less disturbance composition metabolism planted than unplanted soil. In soil, stimulated fermentation while upregulating photoautotrophic activity enhancing system The rhizosphere effect mitigated MPs-induced CO2 emissions. Overall, our study highlights crucial effects maintaining ecosystem stability under microbe-DOM-pollutant interactions, which provides theoretical basis for predicting resistance, resilience, transitions upon exposure anthropogenic source.
