Urban
environments
contribute
substantially

rising
burden

cardiometabolic
diseases
worldwide.
Cities
are
complex
adaptive
systems
that
continually
exchange
resources,
shaping
exposures
relevant
human
health
such
as
air
pollution,
noise,
and
chemical
exposures.
In
addition,
urban
infrastructure
provisioning
influence
multiple
domains
risk,
including
behaviors,
psychological
stress,
nutrition
through
various
pathways
(eg,
physical
inactivity,
heat
food
systems,
availability
green
space,
contaminant
exposures).
Beyond
health,
city
design
may
also
affect
climate
change
energy
material
consumption
share
many
same
drivers
with
diseases.
Integrated
spatial
planning
focusing
on
developing
sustainable
compact
cities
could
simultaneously
create
heart-healthy
environmentally
healthy
designs.
This
article
reviews
current
evidence
associations
between
exposome
(totality
a
person
experiences,
environmental,
occupational,
lifestyle,
social,
factors)
within
science
framework,
examines
principles
connectivity,
density,
diversity
land
use,
destination
accessibility,
distance
transit).
We
highlight
critical
knowledge
gaps
regarding
built-environment
feature
thresholds
for
optimizing
outcomes.

Electrifying
heavy-duty
trucks
reduces
on-road
diesel
emissions
but
shifts

burden
of
supplying
energy
to
power-generation
facilities.

Concentration
estimates
for
ambient
air
pollution
are
used
widely
in
fields
such
as
environmental
epidemiology,
health
impact
assessment,
urban
planning,
equity
and
sustainability.
This
study
builds
on
previous
efforts
by
developing
an
updated
high-resolution
geospatial
database
of
population-weighted
annual-average
concentrations
six
criteria
pollutants
(PM2.5,
PM10,
CO,
NO2,
SO2,
O3)
across
the
contiguous
U.S.
during
a
five-year
period
(2016-2020).
We
developed
Land
Use
Regression
(LUR)
models
within
partial-least-squares-universal
kriging
framework
incorporating
several
land
use,
satellite-based
predictor
variables.
The
LUR
were
validated
using
conventional
clustered
cross-validation,
with
former
consistently
showing
superior
performance
capturing
variability
quality.

ABSTRACT
Clean
air
actions
(CAAs)
in
China
have
been
linked
to
considerable
benefits
public
health.
However,
whether
the
beneficial
effects
of
CAAs
are
equally
distributed
geographically
is
unknown.
Using
high-resolution
maps
distributions
major
pollutants
(fine
particulate
matter
[PM2.5]
and
ozone
[O3])
population,
we
aimed
track
spatiotemporal
changes
health
impacts
from,
geographic
inequality
embedded
in,
reduced
exposures
PM2.5
O3
from
2013
2020.
We
used
a
method
established
by
Global
Burden
Diseases
Study.
By
analyzing
loss
life
expectancy
(LLE)
attributable
O3,
calculated
gain
(GLE)
quantify
air-quality
improvement.
Finally,
assessed
GLE
using
Gini
index
(GI).
Based
on
risk
assessments
during
first
stage
(2013
2017),
mean
was
1.87
months.
Half
sum
disproportionally
about
one
quarter
population
exposed
(GI
0.44).
During
second
(2017
2020),
increased
3.94
months
decreased
0.18).
According
our
assessments,
were
enhanced,
stages,
terms
not
only
preventing
premature
mortality
but
also
ameliorating
inequalities.
The
enhancements
related
sensitivity
pollution
synergic
control
levels.
Our
findings
will
contribute
optimizing
future
CAAs.
