Nanofiltration (NF) has the potential to achieve precise ion–ion separation at subnanometer scale, which is necessary for resource recovery and a circular water economy. Fabricating NF membranes selective ion highly desirable but represents substantial technical challenge. Dipole–dipole interaction mechanism of intermolecular attractions between polar molecules with dipole moment due uneven charge distribution, such an not been leveraged tune membrane structure selectivity. Herein, we propose novel strategy tunable surface polyamide by introducing solvent large during interfacial polymerization, in dipole–dipole acyl chloride groups trimesoyl (TMC) can successfully intervene amidation reaction alter density carboxyl layer. As result, prepared positively charged (PEI-TMC)-NH2 negatively (PEI-TMC)-COOH composite membranes, show similarly high permeance, demonstrate separations cations anions engineering applications, respectively. Our findings, first time, confirm that solvent-induced interactions are able type efficient separation.

Current single-function superwettable materials are typically designed for either oil removal or water and constrained by density, limiting their widespread applications. Janus membranes with opposite wettability on two surfaces have recently emerged present attractive opportunities on-demand oil/water emulsion separation. Here, a combination strategy is introduced to prepare membrane asymmetric superwettability switchable A mussel-inspired interface introduction cooperating the sequence-confined surface modification not only brings about an but also guarantees outstanding stable remarkable chemical stability surfaces. Specifically, superhydrophilic underwater superoleophobicity can separate surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions. Conversely, other displays superhydrophobicity superoleophilicity treat water-in-oil Significantly, this presents superior long-term separation without obvious flux decline high recovery ability because of its stability. Furthermore, enhances interfacial floatability at air–water interfaces, enabling design advanced materials. The as-prepared has established cooperated system, overcoming monotony conventional expanding application these specialized oily wastewater treatment.

Abstract Millions of people across the globe are severely afflicted because water potability issues, and to proffer a solution this crisis, efficient cost-effective desalination techniques necessitated. Membranes, in particular Graphene-derived membranes, have emerged as potential answer grave problem their tunable ionic molecular sieving capability, thin structure, customizable microstructure. Among graphene-derived Graphene Oxide membranes been most promising, given replete presence oxygen-containing functional groups on its surface. However, prospects commercial applicability these currently plagued by uneven stacking, crossflow delamination, flawed pores, screening pH effects, horizontal defects membrane. In addition, due selectivity–permeability trade-off that commonly exists all separation efficiency is negatively influenced. This review, while studying challenges, aims outline recent ground-breaking developments graphene-based membrane technology, encompassing mechanism, selectivity, adjustable mechanical characteristics, uses. Additionally, we covered detail how several process variables such temperature, total oxygen concentration, affect effectiveness with focal point tilted toward used intercalation effective nanomaterial graphene oxide for

The creation of uniformly molecular-sized through-pores within polymeric membranes and the direct evidence these pores are essential for fundamentally understanding transport mechanism improving separation efficiency. Herein, we report an electric-field-assisted interface synthesis approach to fabricating large-area covalent organic framework (COF) that consist preferentially oriented single-crystalline COF domains. These frameworks were translated into high-density, vertically aligned across entire membrane, enabling visualization membrane with ultrahigh resolution 2 Å using low-dose high-resolution transmission electron microscopy technique (HRTEM). density directly visualized was quantified be 1.2 × 10
