Abstract Biodiversity offsetting and ecosystem accounting are two rapidly developing fields that share a common goal: quantifying changes in ecosystems. Nevertheless, the intersection of these is often overlooked, despite significant synergies they offer. This perspective paper explores this from both sides, highlighting benefits for practice steps needed to make accounts offsetting‐ready . The System Environmental‐Economic Accounting—Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA EA) most widespread sophisticated framework accounting. was designed consistently quantify biodiversity at several spatial scales, including fine scales typically relevant offsetting. Furthermore, components also tightly related key concepts To illustrate this, we provide dictionary cross‐linking terminologies fields. Despite fundamental similarities, developed today not (directly) suitable fine‐scale use. We discuss reasons practical challenges improving suitability Solution : Aligning offers huge opportunity fields, enhancing standardisation practices, making them extensible high level no net loss targets can be achieved by using offsetting‐relevant scalable metrics as condition variables, implementing indices yield meaningful currencies. argue future case studies should recognise quantification loss/gain use cases. And call dedicated pilots apply concrete contexts, transformative potential harnessing policy.

In the biodiversity and climate emergency, a holistic approach is needed for development of smart cities. This perspective paper proposed novel conceptual framework nature-positive cities in socio-technical-ecological system (STES), which bridged gap between technological advancement ecological principles within existing city approach, enabling to transition towards biodiversity-led paradigm. Based on recent literature cities, this combines with capabilities Nature 4.0, using tools such as AI, sensors, IoT, big data analytics, machine learning. The shows that green spaces have already been developed worldwide; therefore, education personnel working local government effectively use new technology. presents examples how technologies can be utilised urban maximise ecosystem services biodiversity. Beyond crisis and grief: Rethinking conservation narratives DOI

Abstract Since 1985, conservation science has been unquestioningly described as a crisis discipline. This narrative entails prioritizing immediate responses to threats despite limited knowledge. Although interventions have grown significantly, biodiversity loss continued unabated, and those working or living alongside declining ecosystems report increasing levels of emotional distress. Ecological grief is particularly on the rise claimed by some necessary process fuel urgent lifesaving changes. However, I argue that both narratives—the emerging ecological established approach—can synergically reinforce loop resignation, where decline either passively accepted inadvertently perpetuated. Such resignation ultimately leads harmful adaptation ongoing degradation. Finally, propose shift toward transformative narrative, moving away from primary focus thinking embrace proactive futures. Reframing underlying narratives essential, because they can influence broader agenda.
