Metal contamination is ubiquitous in urban areas and represents a risk to arthropod species. Bees are exposed metals while foraging within contaminated landscapes from multiple sources. Eliminating the of bee exposure complex, requires an understanding how bees become contaminated, accumulate bodies, this influences their health. We selected Bombus impatiens, common eastern bumble bee, as our focal species because it most frequently encountered United States greenspaces. The aims study were quantify lethal concentration limit (LC

Bumblebees (Bombus spp.) are important and widespread insect pollinators, but the act of foraging on flowers can expose them to harmful pesticides chemicals such as oxidizers heavy metals. How these compounds directly influence bee survival indirectly affect health via gut microbiome is largely unknown. As toxicants in floral nectar pollen take many forms, we explored genomes bee-associated microbes for their potential detoxify cadmium, copper, selenate, neonicotinoid pesticide imidacloprid, hydrogen peroxide-which have all been identified pollen. We then exposed Bombus impatiens workers varying concentrations diet assayed direct effects survival. Using field-realistic doses, further indirect microbiomes. found multiple putative genes core that may aid detoxifying chemicals. also while toxic at levels within above concentrations, concentrations-except imidacloprid-altered composition microbiome, potentially causing dysbiosis. Overall, our study shows cause mortality, likely indirect, deleterious microbiome.

Mechanistic understanding of the interaction copper-based nanomaterials with crops is crucial for exploring their application in precision agriculture and implications on plant health. We investigated biological response soybean (Glycine max) plants to foliar copper hydroxide nanowires (CNWs) at realistic exposure concentrations. A commercial based-fungicide (Kocide), dissolved ions, untreated controls were used comparison identify unique features physiological, cellular, molecular levels. After 32 d CNW (0.36, 1.8, 9 mg CNW/plant), newly developed tissues accumulated significantly high levels Cu (18-60 μg/g) compared Kocide (10 μg/g); however, rate translocation from site treatment other was slower treatments. Like Kocide, medium doses altered Co, Mn, Zn, Fe accumulation enhanced photosynthetic activities. The proteomic metabolomic analyses leaves CNW-treated suggest a dose-dependent response, resulting activation major processes, including photosynthesis, energy production, fatty acid metabolism, lignin biosynthesis, carbohydrate metabolism. In contrast treatments, resulted increased oxidative stress amino metabolism activation.

As for most of the life that inhabits our planet, microorganisms play an essential role in insect nutrition, reproduction, defence, and support their host many other functions. More recently, we assisted to exponential growth studies describing taxonomical composition bacterial communities across insects' phylogeny. However, there is still outstanding question needs be answered: Which factors contribute shape microbiomes? This study tries find answer this by taking advantage publicly available sequencing data reanalysing over 4000 samples insect-associated under a common framework. Results suggest taxonomy has wider impact on structure diversity associated microbial than considered (diet, sex, stage, sample origin treatment). when specifically testing signatures codiversification species microbiota, analyses found weak this, suggesting while strongly drive diversification those did not follow host's Furthermore, parallel survey literature highlights several methodological limitations need future research endeavours.
