ABSTRACT Dietary fiber confers multiple health benefits originating from the expansion of beneficial gut microbial activity. However, very few studies have established metabolic consequences interactions among specific fibers, microbiome composition, and function in either human or representative animal models. In a study design reflective realistic population dietary variation, fecal metagenomic metabolomic profiles were analyzed healthy dogs fed 12 test foods containing different sources quantities (5–13% as-fed basis). Taxa functions identified whose abundances associated with overall intake compositions. Fourteen species significantly enriched response to ≥1 source; enrichment fiber-derived metabolites was more pronounced these sources. Positively metabolites, including short-chain fatty acids, acylglycerols, bound sugars, polyphenols, co-occurred microbes food groups. Critically, metabolite pools responsive differential dependent on differences both individual community membership ecological configuration. This helps explain, for first time, microbiome-diet associations observed companion epidemiology. Thus, our corroborates findings cohorts reinforces role personalized microbiomes even seemingly phenotypically homogeneous subjects. IMPORTANCE Consumption changes composition and, larger extent, metabolites. Production health-relevant such as acids depends consumption metabolite-producing it. Even population, benefit received is emphasizes fiber-microbe-host interactions. These observations are relevant population-wide nutrition applications.

The human gastrointestinal tract hosts a complex and dynamic community of microorganisms known as the gut microbiota, which play pivotal role in numerous physiological processes, including digestion, metabolism, immune function. Recent research has highlighted significant impact diet on microbiota composition functionality, consequential effects host health. Concurrently, there is growing evidence linking to inflammation, key factor many chronic diseases such inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular (CVDs). This review explores how dietary components influence composition, these microbial changes affect pathways, therapeutic implications modulating this axis for prevention management. Beneficial patterns, Mediterranean (MD) plant-based diets, promote diverse balanced supporting anti-inflammatory pathways. Conversely, Western (WD), high saturated fats refined sugars, associated with dysbiosis increased inflammation. With all links between three variables considered, attempts offer thorough examination triangle formed by food.

Chronic wounds impact 4.5% of the US population, necessitating a comprehensive understanding their types and underlying mechanisms. Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), prevalent in 25% individuals with diabetes, contribute significantly to lower limb amputations. The pathophysiology involves neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, impaired immunity, glycemic control, mechanical stress. Lifestyle medicine emerges as pivotal aspect care, offering both prevention treatment by integrating plant-predominant nutrition, physical activity, stress management, avoidance harmful substances, restful sleep, social connectedness. These interventions gene interactions, immune function, tissue regeneration, playing crucial role chronic wound management. standard care multidisciplinary approach, emphasizing infection vascular pressure offloading, conducive healing environments, lifestyle adjustments. As diabetes prevalence rises, proactive integration is crucial, promising avenue alleviate growing healthcare burden associated wounds.

Gut microbes produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are associated with broad health benefits. However, it is not fully known how diet and/or the gut microbiome could be modulated to improve SCFA production.
