ABSTRACT
Soil
microorganisms
mediate
several
biological
processes
through
the
secretion
of
natural
products
synthesized
in
specialized
metabolic
pathways,
yet
functional
characterization
ecological
contexts
remains
challenging.
Using
culture-independent
metagenomic
analyses
microbial
DNA
derived
directly
from
soil
samples,
we
examined
potential
biosynthetic
gene
clusters
(BGCs)
six
bacterial
communities
distributed
along
an
altitudinal
gradient
Andes
Mountains
Atacama
Desert.
We
mined
38
metagenome-assembled
genomes
(MAGs)
and
identified
168
BGCs.
Results
indicated
that
most
predicted
BGCs
were
classified
as
non-ribosomal-peptides
(NRP),
post-translational
modified
peptides
(RiPP),
terpenes,
which
mainly
species
Acidobacteriota
Proteobacteria
phyla.
Based
on
BGC
composition
according
to
types
core
genes,
MAGs
observed,
three
them
with
predominance
for
a
single
phylum,
two
also
showed
specificity
sampling
site.
Comparative
accessory
genes
associations
between
membrane
transporters
other
protein
domains
involved
metabolism
classes
cores,
such
resistance-nodulation-cell
division
(RND)
multidrug
efflux
pumps
RiPPs
iron-dependent
transporter
TonB
terpenes.
Our
findings
increase
knowledge
regarding
uncultured
bacteria
inhabiting
pristine
locations
one
oldest
driest
nonpolar
deserts
Earth.

Abstract
Non-pathogenic
fungi
are
being
increasingly
recognized
for
their
involvement
in
biological
invasions,
where
they
have
the
potential
to
cause
ecological
and
economical
harm.
One
notable
example
is
ectomycorrhizal
(EcM)
fungus,
Suillus
luteus
,
which
commonly
found
co-invading
with
non-native
pines
that
escaped
from
commercial
pine
plantations
across
Southern
Hemisphere.
In
such
selection
pressures
imposed
by
novel
plants,
soil
microbes,
environmental
conditions,
as
well
impoverished
assemblages
of
EcM
fungi,
may
exert
particularly
strong
selective
effects
contribute
driving
evolutionary
divergence
traits.
We
investigated
impact
this
global
co-introduction
on
biosynthetic
gene
cluster
(BGC)
diversity
native
introduced
populations
S.
.
demonstrated
higher
BGC
at
both
clan
levels
compared
populations.
Additionally,
we
identified
a
collection
unique
BGCs
24
highly
conserved
clans,
including
two
featuring
known
pathways,
within
