This study examined the relation between pandemic-related stressors and mental health among young people (YP) in India during two time points waning phase of pandemic. We use data from cross-sectional waves over 20,000 YP aged 5–19 February 2022, peak Omicron wave, October a reduction infections easing restrictions. COVID illness/death family's social network, current lockdown stringency, significant change household income were to adult respondents' reports internalizing symptoms. Internalizing symptoms declined slightly 2022. COVID-19 network was generally associated with more Higher stringency lower levels households increases tended have Many associations driven by older adolescents stronger earlier (Feb-2022) than later (Oct-2022) collection time-points. The findings illustrate importance anchoring results within study's specific geographic context, including concurrent events period. Importantly, that may initially seem counterintuitive ultimately illuminate dynamic complex processes underlying child adolescent health.

Abstract Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted daily life and led to sharp shocks in trends for various health outcomes. Although substantial evidence exists linking the mental outcomes dementia outcomes, little on how cognitive status may alter impact of COVID-19 health. Methods We used prepandemic data from Longitudinal Aging Study India-Diagnostic Assessment Dementia study 9 waves Real-Time Insights India (N = 1 182). estimated associations between measures cognition (continuous based 22 tests, status) during (Patient Health Questionnaire [PHQ]-4 [9 time points], PHQ-9 [2 Beck Anxiety Inventory [3 points]), adjusting age, gender, rural/urban residence, state, education, Results Summarizing across points, score was marginally or significantly associated with (PHQ-9 difference: −0.38 [−0.78 0.14] points per SD higher cognition; p .06), 0.61 [0.11–1.13] those compared no dementia; .02). Associations BAI were null, whereas PHQ-4 varied over (p value interaction .02) strongest delta wave, when burden highest. Conclusions present initial that impacts other acute stressors be unequally distributed strata In dynamically changing environments, impairment more vulnerable adverse
