Purpose: It is well established that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased incidence of depressive symptoms in general population. So far, there are no studies analyzing how this affected prescription antidepressants. Methods: We retrospectively estimated new cases depression by prescriptions antidepressive agents over a period 6 years distributed three periods 2 each: pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic, running from March 2018 to February 2024. Depression is an important public health issue. Over the years, consumption of antidepressants has increased in population, which on one hand may mean diagnostic accuracy, but other could a problem inappropriate and prescribing. Background: This study aimed to investigate the impact of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and role vaccination in onset neuropsychiatric conditions, evaluated through antidepressant prescriptions.Methods: A case-control from three Italian Regions, risk new prescriptions relation exposure vaccination. Individuals with newly prescribed antidepressants (cases) were matched 1:1 by sex age non-users (controls) during same period. Pooled estimates regional Odds Ratios (ORs) obtained inverse variance-weighted random-effects analyses.Findings: base 6,658,840 individuals. Those previously infected had a higher receiving prescription this association was stronger among those hospitalized due (non-hospitalized: OR 1·30, 95% CI 1·21-1·40; hospitalized: 2·93, 2·73-3·15). acted as an effect modifier, reducing excess risk. Among individuals severe infection, pooled for 3·68 (95% = 2·99-4·54) unvaccinated 2·42 2·10-2·78) vaccinated.Interpretation: results confirm factor symptoms.
