The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on clinical outcomes and healthcare utilization in patients receiving maintenance dialysis is unclear. To compare rates (in-center home modalities) before during pandemic. Population-based, repeated cross-sectional study. Linked administrative databases from Ontario, Canada. Adults March 15, 2017, to 14, 2020 (pre-COVID-19 period) 2020, 2023 (COVID-19 period). Our primary outcome was all-cause mortality. secondary included non-COVID-19-related mortality, hospitalizations (excluding elective surgeries), emergency room visits, intensive care unit admissions, hospital admissions with mechanical ventilation. We also examined cardiovascular-related hospitalizations, kidney-related outcomes, ambulatory visits. used Poisson generalized estimating equations model pre-COVID trends these predict post-COVID estimate relative change (i.e., ratio observed expected rate). In 31 900 individuals study period, crude incidence rate (per 1000 person-years) mortality 165.0 pre-COVID-19 compared 173.2 first year 171.7 36 months After adjustment, there a statistically significant increase 14 out period 494 recorded COVID-19-related deaths. However, when examining overall across months, adjusted (aRR) comparing not (1.08, 95% CI: 1.00, 1.16) 0.99, 1.18) pre-pandemic period. 163.3 157.7 months. no substantial deaths (aRR 1.01, 0.94, 1.09), but decrease hospitalization, an aRR 0.92 (95% 0.88, 0.97), visits admissions; findings were consistent into External generalizability other jurisdictions may be limited, each region experiencing different implementing mitigation strategies. population, significantly higher several pandemic; however, substantially than There despite acute utilization. Ongoing monitoring population will offer further insights long-term effects
