In a recent article, Haining et al outline several ethical and regulatory considerations for polygenic risk scores (PRSs), which may expand current embryonic screening to include diseases non-disease traits. I argue in this response that the authors overlook few crucial issues nations should address. For adult-onset diseases, regulations must not only account predictive accuracy of PRSs but also establish precise circumstances warrant testing—such as disease’s severity average age at symptoms manifest. later stress need more consideration how educate patients on manageable their embryos are developing. Required information correct social biases without compromising genetic counsellors’ impartiality. Drawing global approaches other tests, advocate frameworks protect patients’ autonomy while addressing unique uncertainties posed by PRSs.
