Abstract In this paper we present an ethnographic study of the work histopathologists as they grapple with twin innovations transitioning to digital biopsy images and prospective adoption AI-based clinical decision support system (CDSS). Objectives Lack of trust and transparency is stressed as a challenge for clinical implementation artificial intelligence (AI). In breast cancer screening, AI-supported reading shows promising results but more research needed on how medical experts, which are facing the integration AI into their work, reason about information needs. From sociotechnical practice perspective, we add to this knowledge by Swedish case study. This study aims to: (1) clarify radiologists’ views trust, expertise pertaining in mammography screening (2) analytically address ideas professionals’ critical engagement with motivations AI. Method An online survey was distributed radiologists. Survey responses were analysed descriptive statistical method, correlation analysis qualitative content analysis. The used foundation analysing parts engagements Results Of radiologists ( n = 105), 47 answered (response rate 44.8%). 53.2% 25) respondents would high/somewhat high degree assessments.
