Summary Given the increasing global demand for sustainable agricultural practices, there is a growing need to evaluate effectiveness of governance mechanisms. This paper presents case study analysis voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) and their impact on maintaining soil health in context soybean production, specifically Brazilian Savannah (Cerrado biome). The production certified by VSS ProTerra Roundtable Responsible Soy was evaluated 35 farms, considering factors such as land use, deforestation, cultivation methods, pesticide usage, effects health. assessment these conducted through comprehensive methodology that included field visits, sampling laboratory analysis, remote sensing techniques using satellite imagery, structured interviews with farm managers. are private mechanisms establish quality be followed various areas. shows generally respected farms and, particular, excluding deforestation. promote incremental improvements within overall large-scale, business-as-usual agriculture promoting practices enhance fertility, reduce erosion, optimise input use. These actions can contribute stronger health, boosting resilience, productivity. urgency reconciling food climate change mitigation adaptation will increase interest certification coming decades. Therefore, monitoring verification those standards, shown our study, fundamental provide true benefits, transparency, confidence market.

Land degradation, caused by human-induced processes such as agricultural practices, deforestation and overgrazing, poses a significant threat to countries worldwide, including Tunisia. Agroecological farming well the broader paradigm of agroecology transform food systems, are considered important solutions address challenges drivers land degradation. This paper aims explore potential future transformations in country institutional factors hindering transformations. We build on six domains Anderson et al. ABSTRACT Crop rotation can help to alleviate land use pressure, prevent soil degradation, and promote sustainable agricultural development. Land in Northeast China has long been overused ensure national food security. Maize–soybean (MSR) is an effective conservation strategy, but its suitability not yet determined China. In this study, we applied optimized MaxEnt model by integrating multiple environmental variables systematically predict the of for maize soybean cultivation, establish MSR function, define specific range priority The obtained significantly improved performance, where suitable areas covered 60.25% 56.88%, respectively, total area Suitability was influenced factors, including climate, topography, soil, hydrology, conditions, particularly gravel content depth, were identified as main factors. Extensive are supporting MSR, highly only account 6.96% area, they primarily located Songnen Plain, most which developed into cropland. scientifically implementing thereby providing crucial support adjusting planting structure optimizing planning

Soil microorganisms are essential for maintaining the function and health of agricultural ecosystems. However, responses microbial communities to long-term changes in land use have been insufficiently explored. Hence, based on a 15 years field experiments northeast Mollisol region China, we applied Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology study effects different types, including conventional tillage (CT), bare (BL), no (NT), natural vegetation restoration (NVR), afforestation (AF), bacterial along soil profile (0–5 cm, 5–10 10–20 20–30 cm) co-occurrence networks identified their relationships with physicochemical properties. The findings indicated that type as well depth affected diversity structure significantly. There was marked difference between CT NT at depths, except cm. In NT, NVR, AF, relative abundance Actinomycetota Firmicutes higher than CT. Conversely, showed remarkably Proteobacteria Acidobacteriota BL, AF. Compared increased stability complexity community Additionally, composition were correlated soil’s total nitrogen (TN), pH organic carbon (TOC). Our revealed potential mechanism by which distribution communities, high importance sustainable development agriculture optimal management resources.
