Summary Given the increasing global demand for sustainable agricultural practices, there is a growing need to evaluate effectiveness of governance mechanisms. This paper presents case study analysis voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) and their impact on maintaining soil health in context soybean production, specifically Brazilian Savannah (Cerrado biome). The production certified by VSS ProTerra Roundtable Responsible Soy was evaluated 35 farms, considering factors such as land use, deforestation, cultivation methods, pesticide usage, effects health. assessment these conducted through comprehensive methodology that included field visits, sampling laboratory analysis, remote sensing techniques using satellite imagery, structured interviews with farm managers. are private mechanisms establish quality be followed various areas. shows generally respected farms and, particular, excluding deforestation. promote incremental improvements within overall large-scale, business-as-usual agriculture promoting practices enhance fertility, reduce erosion, optimise input use.
