(MEAs)

environmental
footprint
is
low
compared

continents,

estimated

Africa’s

Hunting
wild
animals
for
food
and
income,
which
is
pervasive
across
tropical
regions,
drives
biodiversity
loss.
Interventions

promote
sustainable
meat
harvesting

hunter
behavior.

monitored
the
hunting
activities
of
33
hunters
in
SE
Nigeria
over
three
years
(1,106
hunter-months)
identify
correlates
(a)
probability
initiating
a
trip
any
given
day;

success
–
whether
an
animal
was
caught,
if
so,
how
many;
(c)
carcass
price.
We
found
higher
during
periods
with
bright
moon
phases
peak
agriculture
season.
Hunters
were
more
likely
catch
at
least
one
when
there
less
rainfall
shorter
trips.
However,
among
successful
trips,
number
caught
increased
duration.
Taken
together,
these
results
suggest
set
themselves
minimum
target
not
returning
empty-handed
rather
than
optimally
adjusting
their
effort.

kilogram
