Lipids
are

Lipid

ABSTRACT
Lipids
are
essential
for
neuron
development
and
physiology.
Yet,
the
central
hubs
that
coordinate
lipid
supply
demand
in
neurons
remain
unclear.
Here,
we
combine
invertebrate
vertebrate
models
to
establish
presence
functional
significance
of
neuronal
droplets
(LD)
vivo
.
We
find
LD
normally
present
a
non-uniform
distribution
across
brain,
demonstrate
triglyceride
metabolism
enzymes
droplet-associated
proteins
control
formation
through
both
canonical
recently-discovered
pathways.
Appropriate
regulation
has
conserved
male-biased
effects
on
whole-body
energy
homeostasis
flies
mice,
specifically
couple
environmental
cues
with
homeostasis.
Mechanistically,
LD-derived
lipids
support
function
by
providing
phospholipids
sustain
mitochondrial
endoplasmic
reticulum
Together,
our
work
identifies
role
as
organelle
coordinates
management
neurons,
implications
understanding
mechanisms
preserve
health
disease.
