Positive relationships between the home literacy environment and children's language development are well-established. However, existing literature has overlooked potential contributions of music environment. Initial evidence indicates positive emerging skills, yet it remains unclear whether how environments may be related. Furthermore, parents' sense self-efficacy is known to impact provided for their children. Despite being linked with environment, parental not been directly investigated in relation In present study, 124 caregivers preschoolers completed a one-time online survey about self-efficacy. Partial correlations hierarchical regressions reveal that amount exposure associated qualitative (not quantitative) aspects specifically use interactive techniques during shared reading. Moreover, music. Overall, these findings support need further examine meaningfully contribute an enriching learning especially development.

Many claims have been made about links between musical expertise and language ability. Rhythm ability, in particular, has shown to predict phonological, grammatical, second-language (L2) abilities, whereas music training often predicts reading speech-perception skills. Here, we asked whether expertise-musical ability and/or training-relates L2 (English) abilities of Portuguese native speakers. Participants (

In our multicultural and interconnected world, the ability to learn new languages is important. However, there are significant differences in how successfully adults can aspects of non-native languages. Given robust relationships between musical native-language processing, might also contribute successful second-language acquisition. while several studies have assessed this relationship various ways, consistency robustness learning remains unclear. Thus, we synthesized 191 effects across 60 independent (N = 3,462) with a variance estimation multivariate meta-analysis, narratively summarized partial correlation 12 studies. The available evidence suggests that indeed positively related learning, even after factoring publication bias revealed by meta-analysis. Although future work more diverse participant populations methodologies needed further disentangle relationship, it apparent individuals better generally at learning.

Language aptitude has recently regained interest in cognitive neuroscience. Traditional language testing included phonemic coding ability, associative memory, grammatical sensitivity and inductive learning. Moreover, domain-general abilities are associated with individual differences aptitude, together factors that have yet to be elucidated. Beyond cognition, it's also likely experience domain-specific but non-linguistic fields (e.g. music or numerical processing) influence influenced by aptitude. We investigated some of these relationships a sample 152 participants, using exploratory graph analysis, across different levels regularisation, i.e. sensitivity. carried out meta cluster analysis second step identify variables robustly grouped together. discuss the data at baseline level for network as well their meta-network groupings, two analyses, one including other excluding dyslexic readers. Our results show stable association between isolation multilingual experience, musicality literacy. highlight necessity more comprehensive view cognition multivariate systems.

Rhythm is known to play an important role in infant language acquisition, but few development studies have considered that rhythm multimodal and shows strong connections between speech the body. Based on observation infants sometimes show rhythmic motor responses when listening auditory rhythms, present study asked whether specific cues (pitch, intensity, or duration) would systematically increase infants’ spontaneous body movement, their movements be associated with processing abilities. We used pre-existing experimental video data of 148 German-learning 7.5- 9.5-month-old tested use as a cue for segmentation. The were familiarized artificial featuring syllables alternating pitch, duration, none these cues. Subsequently, they recognition bisyllables based perceived rhythm. annotated videos, analyzed moving durations depended cue, correlated them segmentation performance. result was engagement highest heard duration-based Moreover, we found association quantity However, contrary predictions, who exhibited fewer showed more mature performance In sum, provides initial exploratory evidence while are systematic, may linked processing. results highlight need considering source individual differences perception.
