Geographically structured genetic and morphological variation in a new species of Cyrtodactylus (Squamata, Gekkonidae) from a karstic archipelago in western Cambodia

A
new
species
of
karst-dwelling
Bent-toed
Gecko
(genus
Cyrtodactylus
)
is
described
from
an
unexplored
karstic
archipelago
in
western
Cambodia.
kampingpoiensis
sp.
nov.
composed
four
allopatric,
monophyletic
mitochondrial
lineages
based
on
the
ND2
gene.
All
are
statistically
diagnosable
one
another
univariate
(ANOVA)
and
multivariate
(PCA,
DAPC,
MFA)
analyses
using
a
suite
size-corrected
morphometric,
meristic,
categorical
color
pattern
morphological
characters.
Uncorrected
pairwise
sequence
divergence
among
them
low
(1.4–2.2%),
indicating
recent
another.
Given
their
allopatry,
diagnosability,
monophyly
(i.e.,
no
individuals
population
embedded
within
another),
we
contend
they
separate
evolutionary
trajectories
with
chance
secondary
overlap
via
dispersal
through
current
unhabitual
terrain
or
unlikely
future
coalescence
formations
which
occur.
The
discovery
this
underscores
necessity
for
further
exploration
to
gain
more
informed
understanding
herpetological
diversity
Cambodia
general,
that
particular,
where
dozens
isolated
still
remain
unexplored.

and
cranial
osteology.
There
is
some
evidence
that
series
contains
more
than
one
species;
we
hence
designate
a
lectotype
in
order
to
stabilize
nomenclature
provide
precision
on
geographical
location
locality.
Because
current
concept
auctorum
incomplete
composite,
revised
diagnosis
based
presently
designated
paralectotype
from
same
locality,
as
well
observations
new
locality
first
photographs
live
topotypical
individuals.
