Abstract Brazil harbors one of the greatest diversities freshwater fish in world; however, presence or absence high-altitude aquatic ecosystems remains largely unknown. This study aims to investigate occurrence on Itatiaia Plateau (Itatiaia National Park) at altitudes ranging from 2,140 2,543 meters, marking highest-altitude surveys conducted Brazil. Additionally, it analyzes gaps distribution above 2,000 meters by compiling approximately 1 million records digital biodiversity repositories (SpeciesLink, Salve, SIBBr). Results expedition and converge indicate a lack (> m) Psalidodon scabripinnis (Jenyns 1842) is species with highest recorded altitude (∼1,944 m).
