Purpose To explore the etiology and choroidal thickness (ChT) pattern in children with early-onset high myopia (eoHM). Methods Sixty eoHM 20 healthy controls were enrolled this study between January 2019 December 2021. All underwent comprehensive ophthalmologic examinations including swept-source optical coherence tomography. ChT was measured subfoveal region at 1000 μm 2,500 nasal, temporal, superior, inferior to fovea. Results Overall, 120 eyes of 60 examined (mean spherical equivalent, −8.88 ± 3.05 D; mean axial length, 26.07 1.59 mm). Simple (SHM), familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), Stickler syndrome (STL) most frequent etiologies included further analysis. Adjusted effect SE, multivariate regression analysis showed that SHM had thinnest N 2500 I among subgroups ( p = 0.039, 0.013). FEVR group thinner T 0.023), while STL patients exhibited thin all locations. Conclusion This revealed SHM, etiology, a distinctive ChT. Asymmetric nasal thinning is biomarker for asymmetric temporal might serve as FEVR, symmetric diffuse more common STL. These patterns may provide convenient, fast, noninvasive strategy differentiate potential eoHM.
