This paper explores tourism motivations for tourists with health conditions, dementia as an example. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to develop and validate a 28-item outbound motivational scale individuals mild dementia, including eight factors: bias-free equality quest, travel novelty-seeking, nostalgia wellness exploration, personal competence showcase, relaxation positivity, family bond enhancement, cognitive functional enrichment, dementia-related behavioral emotional symptom relief. Further investigations revealed that among significantly influence their attitudes future intentions such travel. Findings inform targeted marketing management strategies vulnerable tourists.

Purpose This study aims to systematically review and critically assess research methods for studying aging populations in tourism hospitality. It identifies gaps provides recommendations advancing methodological innovation response emerging agendas. Design/methodology/approach Following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a systematic of existing literature on Searches were performed major databases, including Scopus Web Science, collect peer-reviewed, English articles published Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)-indexed hospitality journals from 1965 2025. The methodologies employed the selected studies thoroughly analyzed. Findings A total 184 included final analysis. revealed that current predominantly rely surveys interviews, with limited diversity. Purpose This paper provides an in-depth review of healing tourism as a contributor to public health and healthy ageing, emphasising its interdisciplinary nature that connects with sciences. The study addresses conceptual gaps proposes framework for understanding tourism’s therapeutic potential across various populations. Design/methodology/approach systematically reviews 101 empirical articles from disciplines, including tourism, health, psychology medicine. ABSTRACT Conceptual research represents a critical step in the theory‐building process and contributes innovative ideas that inspire empirical studies. This feature article highlights importance of such academia with examples drawn from tourism literature. It also critically discusses issues related to publishing conceptual premier journals. By using five‐dimension framework curiosity (i.e., deprivation sensitivity, joyous exploration, social curiosity, stress tolerance, thrill seeking), scholars can assess researchers’ topics readers’ responses when contemplating “what's new” gauge paper's publication potential.
