Purpose This study aims to examine how the Chinese climate nongovernmental organization “Chinese Weather Enthusiasts” engaged youth through video strategies. Design/methodology/approach The research proposed a framework grounded in 5W model and message sensation value (MSV) analyze relationship between content user interaction. It categorized Bilibili videos into outer inner features introduced rhetorical strategies as elements. A hybrid coding was used, combining machine learning deep (computer vision) for analyzing formal features, while manual used features. Findings results revealed that length, long shots number of scenes positively influenced coins favorites, whereas personification had negative impact. In addition, tone language intensity were correlated with engagement. Originality/value offers insights regarding production communication, broadening focus from text images providing evidence-based guidance practitioners.

This article develops the concept of “smaller-scale platforms,” distinguishing them from both large-scale, infrastructural platforms (such as Silicon Valley giants and Chinese infotech monopolies), small, single-use platforms. To do so, it presents an ethnographic case study Chinese-owned, multinational entertainment live-streaming platform, Bigo Live. The argues that smaller-scale platforms, positioned at fringe internet business ecosystem, are non-infrastructural yet still serve integral components larger, global platform economy international trade. ethnography presented shows how target niche occasionally unconventional markets, offering specialized services within agile, cross-platform, transnational sectors. also depicts naturalization “internet thinking” model, well unusual even extreme events among expatriate personnel, local non-Chinese employees, guilds live-streamers, audience, other stakeholders operating complex geopolitical contexts.
