Abstract Recent years witnessed an increase in attention to femicide, or the killing of women because their gender. Prior empirical studies have drawn prevalence female homicide victimization, but most been unable give a detailed overview specific contexts which are killed, and what extent victimization is unique, i.e., that it differs from male victimization. This exploratory study aims, first, map nature scope six European countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Sweden Switzerland; and, secondly, compare with Using data new uniform recording system, Homicide Monitor, this allowed for unique cross-country comparisons breakdown by victim-offender relationship, type homicide. Results indicated rates remained relatively stable during last decade, narrowing gender gap. Furthermore, results reflected substantial heterogeneity context were victimized. Finally, many respects overlaps do exist. Such heterogeneity, possible call differential approaches.
