The meaning and value of poetic thinking in qualitative sport research

To
do
their
job,
qualitative
sport
researchers
need
to
think.
There
are
multiple
modes
of
thinking
and
each
one
offers
unique
possibilities.
In
this
article,
we
put
the
spotlight
on
poetic
thinking,
an
overlooked
yet
important
mode
for
research.
The
article
explains
what
is
or
can
be,
why
think
poetically,
how
create
conditions
thoughts
emerge.
addition,
it
discusses
might
look
like
in
action,
posits
three
provocations:
How
does
relate
other
thinking?
Is
ethical
poetically?
Can
contribute
social
justice?
Throughout
it's
highlighted
that
doesn't
serve
utilitarian
logic
research

be

within
linguistic

What
is
it
that
develops
in
adult
life?
Development
through
work
and
family
life
have
been
documented
theorised
detail,
but
much
less
known
about
what
learned
beyond
these
domains,
people’s
engagements
hobbies
or
when
out
of
(e.g.,
unemployed,
retired).
We
argue
development
can
be
addressed
general
terms,
domain
specificity;
drawing
on
our
sociocultural
psychology
framework,
assuming
an
open-system
perspective,
we
highlight
the
two
processes
progressive
differentiation
psychological
distancing
diverse
domains
activity.
To
address
over
time,
explore
20
years
lives
longitudinal
analysis
online
diaries.
A
combination
quantitative
qualitative
enables
us
to
identify
experiences
rupture
transitions,
diversity
their
interests,
how
change
time.
Based
a
case-study,
show
that,
if
direction

entail
distanciation,
also
hindered
by
cumulation

Abstract
Science
education
bears
the
broader
objective
of
nurturing
students
today
to
be
scientifically-literate
citizens
tomorrow
who
are
able
foresee
challenges,
invent
solutions
and
make
responsible
decisions
for
global
issues.
As
a
prelude
new
focus
agency
in
Anthropocene,
this
paper
presents
an
intervention
on
climate
change
with
upper
secondary
museum
natural
history
England.
Instructional
strategies
such
as
infusing
scenarios
arts
into
scientific
discussions
were
adopted
induce
imagination,
future-oriented
thinking
emotional
responses.
Statistical
results
showed
that
significantly
enhanced
participants’
futures
literacy,
environmental
positive
emotions.
However,
it
did
not
increase
their
interests
learning
science
out-of-school
context.
Implications
study
will
shed
light
futurising
research
practice.
