Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) experience disproportionate health disparities due to inequities—systematic that are considered unjust, unfair, or avoidable a direct result historical contemporary social injustices. For BIPOC communities, inequities stem from systemic racism intersects with other systems oppression drive synergistic stress experiences further restrict access critical resources tied outcomes. While determinants have long been part the broader scope research, calls center equity increased. We call on researchers strive disrupt through focus equity. believe research should incorporate more critical, justice, equity-minded lens sociocultural contexts lived uplift culturally informed strengths-based interventions, develop preventative methods ameliorate racial in United States globally. In this introduction, we briefly highlight set articles included special issue showcase diverse range cutting-edge innovative centering communities. addition, offer nine recommendations shift toward intersectional, justice-oriented research.
