Prior research on the governance of project-based organizations has centered efficiency problem: compliance, control, and a concern for doing things right. Less addressed creativity how practices spur novel thinking, idea generation, innovation. We discern four archetypes addressing problem along two dimensions: locus orientation. These are exemplified by case illustrations from firms, highlighting key differences in address problem. present an agenda future emphasizing need comparative longitudinal studies.
