The production of conventional ornamental plants is pesticide-intensive. We investigated whether pesticide active ingredients (AIs) are still present in ornamentals at the time purchase and assessed their potential ecotoxicity to non-target organisms. purchased 1000 pot 237 cut flowers different species from garden centers Austria Germany between 2011 2021 analyzed them for up 646 AIs. Ecotoxicological risks AIs were by calculating toxic loads honeybees (Apis mellifera), earthworms (Eisenia fetida), birds (Passer domesticus), mammals (Rattus norvegicus) based on LD

The human impact on environmental landscapes, such as land use, climate change or pollution, is threatening global biodiversity and ecosystems maintenance. Pesticides like the herbicide glyphosate have garnered considerable attention due to their well-documented harmful effects non-target species. During application, active ingredient utilized in various formulations, each containing different additive adjuvants. However, possible of these formulations amphibians - group with highest decline rates among vertebrates remain largely unknown. Therefore, present study investigated four (Glyphosat TF, Durano Helosate 450 Kyleo) embryonic development model organism Xenopus laevis (South African clawed frog). Embryos at 2-cell stage were exposed concentrations (glyphosate: 0.01-100 mg/L), mortality well sublethal organs tissues analyzed. results indicated that had effects, particularly embryos. At concentrations, altered embryos' external appearance, leading malformations reduced eye head size. In addition, exposure impaired heart morphology function, expression heart-specific genes was a molecular level. Our confirmed stronger effect embryogenesis than pure glyphosate. it crucial evaluate co-formulations independently, combined, commercially available products, during pesticide risk assessments renewal procedures agrochemicals. severe amphibians, partly highlights need for strict efficient monitoring loads application areas.

Seagrass meadows are among the most threatened ecosystems on Earth, with losses attributed to increasing coastal populations, degraded water quality and climate change. As communities work improve quality, there is increased concern regarding use of herbicides within watersheds these sensitive ecosystems. Glyphosate widely used herbicide Earth because it non-selective lethal plants. Also, targeted amino acid synthesis pathway glyphosate not carried out by vertebrates, generally considered one safer but effective market. At least partially due its cost-effectiveness compared other techniques, including mechanical harvesting, in aquatic environment has areas manage weeds, maintain navigable waterways mitigate upland flooding. This prompted concerns potential ecosystem-level impacts. To test acute toxicity seagrasses, mesocosm experiments exposed Ruppia maritima Halodule wrightii 1 ppm, 100 ppm 1000 (as acid). No significant decrease leaf chlorophyll a (Chl a) was identified for either species at versus control; however, decreases were observed higher concentrations. In all except mesocosms, column Chl increased, 7-fold increase ppm. These data demonstrate that very high concentrations, both light limitation from enhanced algal biomass may have adverse impacts seagrasses. Despite observations, no which >1000 times than concentrations measured Indian River Lagoon system. Overall, associated decaying contribute nutrients systems, contrast removal when harvesting used. Based our calculations, recommended application rates, contributions eutrophication, harmful blooms more likely impact seagrasses glyphosate.
